Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you an update on the whole DOGE situation from my last video. Iāve been checking out the comments and noticed a mix of opinions, so I want to explain what my goal was and see if I managed to do it.
I basically wanted to look into the most particular/interesting things that DOGE mentioned on its X profile, do a bit more digging, and add some factual background or extra context that might be helpful for you to make your own judgement.
I wasnāt trying to share my own personal opinions, so I wasnāt siding with or against DOGE. In parts of the video (like around 6:35), I mention possible errors in DOGEās numbersālike with the Alpaca Farming in Peru projectābut thatās only when I found something that didnāt match up with the facts according to the provided sources.
I knew there might be some backlash since topics like this can get pretty heated. Normally, I try to make it super clear that Iām staying as objective as possible. Maybe I didnāt communicate that well enough this time, or maybe this particular topic is just too sensitive right now. Or maybe I failed in my intent altogether.
Iāve also seen some comments pointing out that I used X as a source. To clarify, I included DOGEās X posts in my sources so you can see exactly where they claimed these expenses were made. Those claims (apart from the ā$56,000 to water 8 plantsā one, which is why I said āDOGE CLAIMEDā) do have other sources like usaspending.gov.
I think the main point of confusion might've been the title, but I want to clarify that Iām not the one calling these expenditures āwaste.ā That label comes from DOGE's tweets, I just used it as a starting point to dig deeper and let you make up your own minds on if these expenditures were really waste or not. I can't think of a way of talking about this topic with a "neutral-sounding" title (e.g. The Craziest Spending DOGE Found would still sound like I'm siding with DOGE because of the word "Craziest", or The Funniest Spending DOGE Found would make it sound like I'm siding against it).
I also referred to some of DOGEās X claims with the same titles they used, like the āThanos gauntletā experiment, because thatās what DOGE presented them as and how they're now known as, and I explained what those experiments actually involved. If I said "$118,000 for an experiment about snapping mandibles," those who read the original DOGE's tweet would have had no idea what I was talking about.
A few people have suggested that by making a video on this topic, Iām automatically siding with DOGE. I really donāt think thatās the case. In my opinion, giving out as objective info as possible on subjects that often get bogged down by misinformation and polarization is crucial, so people can decide for themselves.
This video took a lot of research, and Iām totally open to specific feedback (like with timestamps) if you think thereās a moment I mightāve slipped in some bias or personal opinion. I still feel like the video is objective overall, but maybe my timing and wording made it come off differently. Let me know what you guys think!
