in the future - u will be able to do some more stuff here,,,!! like pat catgirl- i mean um yeah... for now u can only see others's posts :c
Good morning everyone. Sorry for not posting more content the past few months. Work was taking up a lot of my time and leaving me "not in the mood" to make videos. Regular life also consumed the rest of my free time too. We won't even talk about the down time of my car breaking its timing belt and destroying four valves. Yike$!
The first problem solved itself two weeks ago when my employer had to lay off four critical people and I was one of them. (Lab manager). So, you would think this would give me more time to play. But, no. Now, my time is consumed by three contract work jobs and searching for a proper full time job with benefits. (oy vay!)
The good news is that I am well, surviving and planning a lot more projects once the schedule opens up a bit. In the meant time, I gave a presentation (of sorts) at the California Historical Radio Society in Alameda last weekend. My subject was a discussion and demonstration of my three NBTV projects, Big Color Televisor, CRT Televisor and the 10-4 Eleanor signal generator. I also showed the rare and super expensive Aurora World Converter sending live camera video to the CRT Televisor so folks could see themselves in the full glory of 32 scan lines at 12.5 frames per second. See that event here: https://youtu.be/ZvpMQG4ABp8 and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpONM... .
I will do all I can to get my channel flowing again very soon. Life may put me down from time to time. But, it can't keep me down. The world is full of problems. (Don't we all know it right now!) Make it your mission today to NOT contribute to them and life may be that little bit better for the next 24 hours! Have a great day, no matter where you are.

Between work and necessary chores, planned and unplanned, around the house, I do manage to get small amounts of time on the projects. Been fighting for days with a suddenly dead Cartrivision portapac project. The box worked. The cameras didn't. What are the odds of TWO cables going bad simultaneously? Clearly, greater than zero. That's sorted now. Deep dive is next on that project list.
The new lens for the bellows should arrive today. If I am lucky, I will get some meaningful time to work on that tonight before my weekly amateur television net (W6SVA) over Whereby. (just like Zoom)
Speaking of ham radio ATV, the wind blew my antenna down again about two weeks ago. No video about that this time. It's been done before! The landlord announced he would be removing the widow maker eucalyptus tree that always threatened the antenna. That task was finally done yesterday. Yay! So, KJ6RNL should be back on ATV by this time next week as well.
A lack of videos does not necessarily mean a lack of progress. So, please enjoy the sense of anticipation. You folks ROCK!

Good morning subscribers. Progress continues on the portable Cartrivision camera power pack and video recorder. I now refer to this project as the Cartrivision Portapac. Some of you will get the humor in that. All will become clear upon completion, which should be soon. Labguy's World is experiencing a "supply chain" situation like the rest of the industry. I have incorporated a vintage Sony stereo microphone into the design. This required the development of a simple stereo preamplifier to support the new mic. Fear not purists, the portapac will also support one or two of the original Cartrivision microphones as well. With a single mic, the circuit is designed to drive both line inputs of the recorder in parallel and with Sony stereo microphone, or two separate external mics, full stereo audio recording. Mode switching is automatic depending on whether one mic input is used or both. Video will, of course be in BW, by virtue of the Cartrivision camera being BW only. The portapac box includes a 5A/Hr 12V battery, an 18V voltage booster for the camera, a 5V buck converter to power the ClearClick recorder, and a 6V or 9V regulator for the MM5369AA 60Hz reference pulse chip, to be determined as the camera requires. Video coming as soon as the last of the components arrive in the mail. ~Labguy~

Hello wonderful subscribers. The next video is delayed as I started my new job this week and have put all my concentration onto that task. The weekend has already been consumed by those pesky "need to do" chores. I have done some preparation for the up coming Catrivision camera deep dive video. Another video will, of course, be the camera #7 debug and repair video. It seems more logical to make the deep dive video first and follow it with the repair video. A preview of the preparation images is posted with this message for your delight. I will be trying to boost the production value a bit in these two videos which, needless to say, will increase the production time. So, bare with me, and we will all enjoy the next episode when ever it gets out. It is good to be employed again. But give me some time to reestablish a practical schedule. You guys and gals rock!

I am bursting at the seams to tell you all the good news! The Craig 6104 is making pictures! Really bad pictures. I had to convert the circuits to use a different vidicon tube. The original tube was a 20PE11 which has an integral screen grid, commonly called the MESH. ALL six of my 20PE11s were defective and ALL of my other 2/3" vidicon tubes were of the separate mesh variety. The tube socket was rewired successfully to support a type 8844 (20PE13) vidicon tube and actual images have been obtained. So, the remainder of the restoration is a GO! Be sure to catch the next video for a look at how we accomplished this minor miracle and to see the restoration projecct proceed to the next phase. Can you say, "Lots and Lots of new capacitors"? I knew that you could. Labguy out!

Subscriptions have passed 2600 just a few days ago. Almost 2620 as I type this. THANK YOU ALL! WELCOME ALL NEW SUBSCRIBERS. May you all have a great new year in 2021. When the real world gets to be too much for you, come on over to my channel and rinse your mind in some light positivity.
Just to let everyone know, all projects are still on track. The regular duties (doodies?) of life have intruded as it is the beginning of the new year. Got most of that behind me now. The NBTV dissector tube camera project is on hold as I make progress to restore my 3D printing abilities here at Labguy's World. Fix the old one or buy a new one? What? Someone could donate a good 3D printer? Ah, to dream.
In the mean time, I have obtained a very rare vidicon television camera. The Craig 6104 VTR accessory camera from about 1965. Needless to say, no manuals. So, I am currently reverse engineering the whole camera and making a video of that process. Be patient. I believe many folks will learn a great deal about this process and get some great ideas to apply to their own needs.
Stay groovy, my friends!

Looking forward to my next image dissector tube camera project, I was able to get my two inch Farnsworth image dissector tube CAT scanned. This is the next best thing to getting a data sheet. With this scan, I can easily work out the internal connections and give it an extremely good chance of being successful. See more about that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxGIs...
See the current and latest episode of the PhiloCam (#1) project here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YT6d...
Be sure to check out all the episodes in that series to learn how I take an antique part, WITH NO DATA AT ALL, and make a working project around it. No one else on YouTube does anything like this!

Classic vintage video tape recorders and video cameras that predate the Betamax and VHS era. Also, covering basic electronics and project construction. Enjoy!
