Hi everyone,
With the significance & numerous questions surrounding the mid-air at Reagan National, I have decided to make a video on one of the exercises we did in ATC school. Some of you know I have a 2 year AA degree & went to college to become an Air Traffic Controller. I passed the required acceptance exam & was accepted by the FAA for training in OKC. 80% of the class washed out. The course was extensive & very serious. Tower control is what we will cover as it relates to the DC mid-air. I hope this exercise will give a unique perspective into how serious this job is, and at the same time, make you think about flying & accidents differently. This will be as basic & simple as I can make it but, A DEEP DIVE. It will be long video. We will have to cover certain terminology but will use simple numbers and protocols. This will be a scaled down and crude example of what we did in the hopes it will make sense to folks. I hope to have the video up in late February early March. If you have any specific questions you want me to cover please let me know.
Note: I put my OKC training on hold at the time. Once I was ready to get back in there was a hiring freeze. Once that was lifted I was 31, you must 30 or younger. I attempted to get a waiver from the FAA but it wasn't an option. Take a look at the about on the channel for my aviation background.

Aviation is the theme here although we do have other content in the playlists from our sister channels. As of August 2023, this channel will be posting aviation related content only. Mike flew from 1967 all the way up to his 80th B-Day in 2018. We really hope you enjoy seeing and hearing from him throughout these videos. Jeff (Mikes son) grew up as the SIC (Pinch Hitter) having logged 550 flight hours but never having a PPC. Jeff did his first takeoff and landing at 12yrs old in their Gruman AA1. All logged left seat time was in the AA1. Majority of hrs logged in piston twins as CP. Jeff received his degree in Air Traffic Control and was accepted by the FAA to go to OKC in the early 1990's but postponed. Once ready a hiring freeze had taken place. When lifted & at age 32, he was too old ;( Aircraft owned: 1955-Tri-Pacer, 1950-B-35 & 1955-F35 Bonanza, 1955 & 1969 Cessna 310 & 310P, 1971-Gruman AA1 and a 1973-B55 Baron. Coolest airplane ever flown by both Mike and Jeff was an AT6 Texan.
