Bernie Slaven is a former professional footballer
for Middlesbrough and the Republic of Ireland.
He went on to play 382 games for MFC clocking up 147 goals.
He gained 7 caps for the Republic and was included in 1990 World Cup squad.
When his career finished he clocked up 500 games as co commentator alongside Ali Brownlee watching MFC and picked up a gold New York Radio award in 2006.
Bernie’s other radio involvement was a North East radio show called The Three Legends, where he worked alongside Newcastle United legend Malcolm Macdonald and Sunderland Legend Eric Gates.As a trio they clocked up 3000 shows.
Bernie during his MFC career was top league scorer for 6 concesutive seasons. He also picked up 2 MFC player of the year awards and North East player of the year award.
His involvement in charity work over the years has raised £200,000 for local charities.
