Yesterday I had to say goodbye to the OG, my beloved Striker. I got Striker when I was 8 years old, and heā€™s what ignited my passion for reptiles, amphibians, and more broadly the natural world. Heā€™s been one of the few constants in my life for the past 20 years. When I was bullied as a child, I would come home and he was the one I would vent to, cry next to, and shared everything with, he truly was my best friend. He was one of the reason why I began my YouTube channel back in 2014. Iā€™m so happy we were able to celebrate 100,000 subscribers together. The reptile room will feel empty without you in it buddy. I know he will be in a better place. A place where he can hang out with Steve Irwin and Brian. Rest in peace my friend.

This one is to all of you out there, all my subscribers specifically. Thank you for 100,000 subscribers! I will be making a video in the coming months about reaching this milestone, so Iā€™ll try and keep it short here.

14 yesrs ago I started this channel with hopes of connecting, educating, learning. I had dreams of reaching likeminded individuals, educating as many people as I could, and most importantly learning more about my passion, reptiles and amphibians.

I can happily say that over the course of this decade and a half, my life would not be what it is today, if I hadnā€™t started (and stuck with) my channel. Many of my closest friends are people Iā€™ve met through YouTube (whether it be fellow creators, or viewers). I wouldnā€™t have met my gf, I wouldnā€™t have been able to go on so many exciting adventures (Madagascar, Colombia, Costa Rica, etc.), without you guys tuning in and making 14 year old Mikeā€™s dream a reality. I owe it all to you.

So thank you for checking out the channel, and choosing to subscribe. Buckle up, we got some wicked videos coming over the coming months!!

I can remember back in the mid-late 2000s, when YouTube was just emerging, kicking back and watching this crazy dude with a ton of snakes and his crew making videos about reptiles, thinking to myself ā€œwow, this dude energy is infectious, how can I do something like thatā€. So much so, that Brian was one of the main reasons I started my channel back in August of 2010. Little did I know Brian would be giving me a call 8 years later, almost to the day, to invite me to help build this little idea he had called the Reptarium.

The first time meeting in person was when myself and a couple of friends showed up a few days before the reptarium build, and after spending hours of chatting at the hotel the night we arrived. The next morning we showed up to BHB, expecting him to give us a few minutes of his time, as he had so much else going on with the construction on the reptarium starting the following day, and then return the following day for the reptarium build. Instead, he spent the entire day chatting, showing us animals, and having some great laughs. To our surprise, he ended the day by handing us the keys to the building and said, 'Go nuts, open whatever you want, just be careful with the alligatorā€™. That day, I knew Brian wasnā€™t just a hyped up YouTuber, the positive energy he exudes on camera, is actually just who he is. Brian is one of the most kind, passionate, energetic and genuine friends Iā€™ve ever had.

Brian had an uncanny ability to make every single person in the room feel heard and understood. No matter how packed the room was, or how busy you were, you always made time to acknowledge everyone, and during that time, it felt like you were the only person in the room and the only thing you cared about was who was standing in front of you.

From being internet acquaintances in 2018, to having the privilege of calling you a dear friend only a few years later. Over the course of a lot of blood, sweat and tears put into the original reptarium, the expansion and all the incredible things he did each day. Brian has had an immense impact on, not only myself, but the reptile community as a whole. Simply put, the hobby wouldnā€™t be where it is today without his impact on it. Now that you are no longer physically here, you get to watch as all of those that you have inspired over the years carry the torch and spread the message that you started so many years ago.

I was honoured when I was invited to attend Brianā€™s service, hearing all the incredible memories everyone had with you and when it was opened up to the public, seeing how many peopleā€™s live you were able to touch was heart warming. We spent the evening reminiscing on all the experiences we shared with Brian in what was his dream, and now his LegaSea.

Until we meet again.

Love you, man.
