Steel castings are steel parts made by pouring molten steel into a mold. Steel Founders' Society of America, founded in 1902, works to advance both the use of steel castings and the technologies used to make them.
Casting is one of the oldest metal manufacturing methods but is also the focus of ongoing development into new alloys, new design methodologies and new production technologies.
By the way, there is a common misconception that castings are weak. Cast steel actually has similar properties to wrought (rolled and/or forged) steel, and in some cases can be superior. The casting method allows the production of steel parts with geometries that could not be produced by any other method.
