Listen to @sosaysjay and I talk about Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry, action games, aging, the way different series evolve, FROMSOFTWARE and Souls, Metroidvania, Survival Horror, being around for so much of gaming's history and seeing the way the industry has changed over the decades, and how there are ALWAYS great games to play, in every era. watch video on watch page

NG4 First Impressions after 1:30:00 (the first mission)
Feels really good to play. Love the cyberpunk setting. Very familiar in a lot of ways, like "coming home" if you've played prior Ninja Gaiden and don't have insanely strict expectations.
Crowdcontrol heavy combat, aggressive foes pressure you, hurt REALLY bad even on Normal. I died / came close to dying multiple times, this isn't an action game that lets you "toy" with enemies unearned, you have to inflict enough control on the battlefield to gain that.
You combo or extend flinch on enemies here as a matter of SURVIVAL. Though scoring is a factor, I don't know how robust and solid it is yet, need to play more. I C-Ranked the first mission on Normal so suffice it to say it's not a pushover but I did waste time exploring a lot.
Like prior Ninja Gaiden items and exploration do matter, and using them in the right situations is encouraged, but what I love is that this is in really smart tension with your economy.
Overflow on Inventory Maximum items converts them to Coin instantly, so fighting clean and not NEEDING items means you unlock your moveset faster because you're making more money earlier. Structuring it this way means you don't need to be docked AS much actual Score for item-use when it comes to Ranking, which is really cool because that means item-use can be incorporated as part of scoring strategy, creating another layer to stage-routing. ("When is the right time to use this item for the most value?" as opposed to them not being a factor in your decision-making at all.) That said it does seem items do cost you some score, so tying being capped on them to making more NinjaCoin throughout the campaign is a good way to get the player thinking about when it's smart to use them and when they can stay untouched.
This makes sense, a player who's GOOD enough to fight sustaining minimal damage is LIKELY a player who can use their fuller moveset earlier in the first place, as opposed to a player who still needs a lot of practice before moving onto learning new moves.
I'm somewhere in the middle.
Certain things feel comfy and familiar as I've played Ninja Gaiden before, so I immediately knew which skills/moves I wanted to unlock super early (Why is absorbing Essence to quickcharge UTs an Unlock...?) but this is a game that WILL kill you on Normal if you've gotten too complacent with a lot of modern games not drowning you in aggression, and punishing you for not being aggressive enough.
I like Yakumo. Raven Clan are sick. I love that they're hackers.
I hope I get to try Ryu soon.

The Shadows review has been quite the task and I'm not really doing other AC stuff while I make it, either. But, Trevi's got your back if you wanted to see something cool and unique. While we've seen Naoe stealth online quite a lot by now, this is a little more special and interesting than the usual fare that tends to get posted. Check it out, and if you enjoyed it, consider leaving a Like on the Twitter post AND his video, so we can make sure our boy wins. v_v

The existence of Xu Wu on its own increases how much I love this game by an immeasurable degree.

I love rogues, anime, horror, and cyberpunk.
I usually play assassins, thieves or anti-heroes.
If you're not sure whether it's sci-fi or fantasy, I'm usually somewhere near.
