When 3 Phineas and Ferb videos randomly go viral 6-9 months after you posted them. You canāt look at the spike, but what happened before and after the spike, which is about a 2x increase in engagement, so thatās at least something. YouTube is my FIFTH best platform now, so, sorry, this doesnāt get al the priority it used to.

Iām considering stopping the music theory posts. They seem to be reaching the wrong people. Instead of reaching people wanting to learn and discuss, itās reaching only the people who donāt know my channel and want to nitpick one word I may not have said correctly and leave 2 paragraph long comments.

For some background, I have a PhD in music composition and have 9 years teaching university level composition, arranging, orchestration, and music theory.

About new āshantyā arrangements:
In 2015, I permanently damaged my voice, and instead of healing over time, itās been slowly deteriorating
In August 2023, the threshold for singing loud, long, high, and rough (which shanties require all 4 of) got to the point where Iām in pain after recording 30 seconds of a song 16 times, so I quit
If you see something that Iām singing full voice on, it means I recorded it before August 2023
You can still make sea shanty requests, but itās dependent on how many people like the request, and if people are willing participate in a remote collaboration

I am jimlapbap, a composer/arranger who is also a music theory/composition/arranging/orchestration teacher as th collegiate level (with 8 years experience). On YouTube, I'm most known for Weird Al-like covers of pop songs, every style other thank polka. Sea shanties, madrigals, barbershop quartets, ragtime, jazz, old-school rock and country, and whatever styles from whatever part of the world (I've studied and performed music from Japan, China, Brazil, Cuba, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Iran). Occasionally, old songs as new styles.
