Join the Balfolk dance workshops led by Emelie Manawa. While the upper class used to dance dull waltzes in the old days, the lower class knew how to throw a more exciting dance party. They danced their own unique style of dances, now known as Balfolk.
Experience the fun of these dances, which have brought people together for centuries. No dancing experience required - all are welcome, from farmers to princesses, trolls to fairies!
The workshops will be accompanied by the music of Bert Leemans. You may know him from his performances with the balfolk group EmBRUN.

Van koningin Medb, die we uit de middeleeuws Ierse literatuur kennen, tot de Welshe Rhiannon uit de Mabinogi verhalen, en de Sheela-na-Gigs die we gebeeldhouwd vinden in Romaanse kerken.
Dit veelvoud aan godinnen, sterk geassocieerd met een Keltische achtergrond, wordt vaak aangegrepen om te beargumenteren dat voorchristelijke Keltische culturen een vrouwvriendelijkere insteek hadden dan het Christendom dat erop volgde. Maar is het wel zo feministisch om al deze verschillende vrouwfiguren het stempel godin te geven? En is het überhaupt wel terecht?
In deze lezing door dr. Nike Stam kijken we naar een aantal van deze figuren, naar wat we van hen weten, en naar de mogelijke implicaties van de stempel ‘Godin’ voor hoe we hen zien.
