The Frere School in Jerusalem was established in 1876 by the Frere Brothers Association (specialized in educational issues) in order to serve the Palestinians of the Holy City of Jerusalem. The association's goal, since its inception, has been to provide quality and distinctive education for Palestinians, especially the poor, not to mention religion, color and belief. In 1999, a decision was taken to convert the school into a co-ed school, and in 2005 the leadership of the school was handed over to a local Palestinian team headed by a Palestinian general manager. The school follows the official Palestinian curriculum, but in addition to it offers the French and Hebrew languages, as well as qualifies students to sit for the GCE exams.
