Hey Bass Players!

Just a quick note to anyone who sees this to say sorry for the almost 2 week break in videos, I've like a lot of people had some awful flu recently, but am now just about getting over it and more videos will be recorded as soon as I can find time around work.

Back soon all!

Hey Bass Players!

Just a quick few updates for those who see these :)

Firstly I want to apologise for a quiet summer of videos, a combo of covid, tech issues and being away a lot has really reduced the number of videos i've posted in July and August.

New videos will be back my first free evening this week and with a bit more regularity as well, i've missed playing so want to get back on it!

I also wanted to mention a new book I've just got. I haven't read it yet so this isn't a review, but with some many general music or guitar books out there I think it's important when get get a rare bass related one to give it a shot!

It's called The Bastard Instrument (haha) by Brian F. Wright and is 'a cultural history of the electric bass'. It comes with glowing praise on the back from Kathy Valentine, Stuart Hamm and Leland Sklar, so if it's good enough with them I think it should be essential reading for anyone who loves bass and wants a detailed history of it.

That's all for now, more videos very soon I promise!

Hey Bass Players!

Two updates in one week! I'm glad to say I'm fixed with the tech issue now, however I've also now got covid! New videos will be posted again as soon as I'm feeling well.

Thanks for all your support for the channel once again.

Hey Bass Players!

Just a quick one for anyone who sees this, sorry about the lack of videos this pass week but i've had a double load of tech issues with headphones and hard drive!

I'm hoping this will be sorted anytime now so videos should start appearing again mid-week at the latest.

Hey Bass Players!

Todays video was mean't to be Skillet - Awake and Alive but unfortunately that is another one that got blocked! 🚫
I'm not sure why as it's an old song now, hopefully it will become unblocked in the future.

However if you want some other Skillet instead I have a few videos that aren't blocked:

Monster - https://youtu.be/Gqfg3NOpSi8

Feel Invincible - https://youtu.be/i7jXFvHMtSk

And a sneak preview for the weekend to those who read this, you can expect some Gnarls Barkley and Van Halen over the next few days... as long as they don't get blocked of course! watch video on watch page

Hey Bass Players!

Just a quick one to say todays video was Twenty One Pilots - Next Semester, but unfortunately it's been blocked 🚫

Overcompensate by them a few weeks ago was fine, so hopefully it's just temporary while it's their newest single. I'll re-upload it if it every becomes unblocked!

Hey Bass Players!

I want to talk about my "philosophy" when it comes to music and my channel. It's going to be a little bit of a rant and comes off of the back of a negative comment; which i know I shouldn't care about, but if it stops one person who reads this being like this person then I think it's a good thing!

So I woke up this morning, and while sipping my coffee I browsed some comments, I try to reply when i get time and nearly all of them are positive, and I love hearing how the videos help people learn the songs they love.

But today I see an essay of a comment from a person telling me I should only downstroke when using a pick and not alternate. Obviously this guy has no proof he's even picked up a bass, they never do! And i'm not joking when I say this comment took up two whole phone screens to read, and by the end of it the only thing I could think was "mate, I'd hate to get stuck talking to you at a party!".

And the reason being is that my whole outlook on playing music from day one is it should be 1) fun, and 2) unique. Yes my channel is obviously covering other peoples songs, but my goal has never been to play it with the exact same stroke pattern, with the exact same fretting finger and the exact same tone! Life is too short for that.

Personally I have no idea why people spend hours working this stuff out when they could be playing, but if you are like that then it's fine, just don't push it on other people! I have no interest if Metallica or Ramones or NOFX only use downstrokes on their bass playing, I've been a fan of all those bands for over 20 years, I know how they play it, but this is ME playing it!

And of course there are some situations it's valid. If I was in the studio recording an album that's costing $500,000 then sure, I'd probably bother to think i'll do all downstrokes here, but recording in my home, nah, I'm gonna have fun and play how I want, and you should too, whatever some fool on the internet says.

Rant over!

Hey Bass Players! Happy New Year!

I'd love to hear what albums are you looking forward to being released in 2024?

I haven't done a lot of research so would love to hear from you, but some artists I know should have early 2024 releases and we will hopefully be able to do some bass covers of include: Green Day, Neck Deep, Alkaline Trio, The Last Dinner Party, Idles, IDKHOW, Bleaches, Sum 41, Everything Everything and Bring Me the Horizon.

But i'm sure there is a ton i've missed so do let me know what you are excited about in the comments.
