The first time I became overweight was at the age of 18 after suffering from extremely low blood sugar. I remember walking out of the house and becoming very dizzy, shaky, and faint. I really struggled to get home again and didn’t know what was happening. After that, I became really scared of fainting and when I discovered it was caused by low blood sugar I started to overeat massive bowls of pasta to try and prevent that from happening again. Unfortunately, It didn’t work and all that happened was I gained a couple of dress sizes.

From that moment I started dieting and tried one diet after another to try and shift the weight. I did the Atkins diet, cabbage soup, slim fast, juice fasting, Weight Watchers, Slimming World, and many more.

As I got older I tried many other diets such as paleo, keto, veganism, raw foods, fruitarian, and whole foods 30, and they all worked for a little while, but the weight came straight back on again.

After years of struggling, I've finally found something that works to keep the weight off for good. My approach is different from all other approaches out there.

Before we got a dog I used to go walking every day on my own, and on those walks, I’d never talk to anyone, I wouldn’t notice dogs or have anything to do with them because I wasn’t a dog person. I’d never really been that interested in dogs, but then we decided as a family that we would get a dog, and even though I didn’t really have that much of an interest in dogs, suddenly, I had to take an interest in dogs. I had to read the books and learn how to take care of a dog. As I was now taking a very curious puppy out for walks every day, I was now paying attention to all of the other dogs because my dog was interacting with them all.

And I was talking to multiple dog owners on every walk that I went on. Basically, I had become a dog person. And even though I still wasn’t that interested in dogs, my new hobby was now all about dogs. I forced myself to take an interest as my dog was important to me.

And just like that, I encourage you to make health and fitness your new hobby because your health and fitness are important to you. Perhaps you’re not that interested in health and fitness, and you don’t ever see yourself working in a health or fitness-related industry, but you still recognise the need to take an interest in health and fitness, educate yourself, and engage with other people who also share the same hobby.
