NEW CAMERA ALERT!

The Fujifilm X-T100 is here. It’s an entry-level mirrorless camera that has the trademark style of Fujifilm’s other X-Series cameras.

We’ll be testing it soon, but here are the key things you need to know.

It is styled like an SLR, with a central electronic viewfinder, just like X-T2 and X-T20, but, as an entry-level camera, inside it has more in common with the X-A5

It has a 24.2-million-pixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor, but it uses a standard RGB bayer pattern array, rather than the Fujifilm X-Trans array.

The sensor provides a sensitivity range of ISO 100-51,200

It does shoot 4K video, but at just 15fps, so the Full HD video is likely to be used more often

The electronic viewfinder has a good resolution of 2.36-million-dots, whilst the 3inch rear screen is also a touchscreen.

As standard the X-T100 will come with the Fujinon XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ kit lens and will be available towards the end of June, priced at £619 in the UK.

Fujifilm announce stylish retro inspired X-A5
-----------------------------------------
With the annual CP+ show just around the corner the new camera arrivals should be coming thick and fast, and Fujifilm has got in first with the new entry-level X-A5. As you would expect from Fujifilm It is a sleek looking camera with more than a nod to the past with its silver rangefinder styled body and black, brown or, err... pink, leatherette finishes.

However, the X-A5 is more than just its looks, and for a price of £549, including the new Fujinon XC 15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens, the camera is packed full of all of the features that you would expect in 2018, plus a few more besides.
-----------------------------------------
Key Features:

The Fujifilm X-A5 uses a 24.2 million-pixel APS-C size CMOS sensor. It should be noted that the sensor has a standard Bayer pattern array - it isn’t an X-Trans sensor. This is standard practice in entry-level Fujifilm cameras; the X-Trans sensor is more expensive so would make the X-A5 uncompetitive as an entry-level camera.

This sensor also allows for phase detection autofocus, as well as improved image processing. Fujifilm claim these changes make the X-A5 focus 1.5x faster than its predecessor.

Sensitivity wise, the X-A5 has a range of ISO 200 to 12,800 which is extendable to ISO 100 - 51,200. This range keeps it on par with its competitors, without being exceptional, although we will wait and see just how good the images are in terms of noise and dynamic range.

One thing that Fujifilm are known for is the excellent colour reproduction and for photographing people Fujifilm are keen to promote the X-A5’s skin tone reproduction. Perhaps with an eye on those stepping up from a smartphone, it seems the X-A5 is very much aimed at social shooters, and those wanting to photograph people, with Fujifilm pointing out in its press release that 50% of all images taken are of people. As such the X-A5 also has Eye-AF, which focuses the camera precisely on a subjects eyes. And of course for those landscape and street photographers the camera has eleven of Fujifilm’s much loved Film Simulation modes.

As you would expect from an entry-level mirrorless camera, there is no electronic viewfinder, with the camera relying on the 1.04-million-dot rear LCD touchscreen. The screen tilts through 180 degrees so that it is front facing - great for selfies or vlogging.

The camera's body looks sleek and stylish, with a simple button layout. However, all of the controls seem closet to hand. We're looking forward to seeing just how good it is when we test the camera in the coming weeks.

Video is an area that Fujifilm have been pursuing for the last couple of years, and the X-A5 does have the ability to shoot in 4K, but sadly on at 15fps. Full HD footage can be recorded at a respectable 50fps with a 14-min recording limit.
There is also a 1280 x 720 high speed shooting option, which records up to 4x slow motion footage. There are no details available on how this works, but we would expect it to only record a few seconds of footage. We’ll be checking this out when we get our hands on a camera shortly.

A microphone socket is also available on the side of the camera, but it should be noted that it is a 2.5mm socket, rather than the standard 3.5mm, so an adapter must be used. Anyone who does plan to use the X-A5 for video can mount a microphone on the cameras hotshoe.

Transferring images to your smartphone or tablet is made simple thanks to wifi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Battery life is claimed to be up to 450 images

There are low and high shooting rates, with 6fps, for 10 JPEG images, or 3fps, for up to 50 JPEG images. There is no word on how the buffer copes when shooting raw images.
-----------------------------------------
New kit lens: Fujinon XC 15-45mmF3.5- 5.6 OIS PZ

Announced alongside the X-A5 is new kit lens - the Fujinon XC 15-45mmF3.5- 5.6 OIS PZ. The 15-45mm focal length equates to 23-69mm on a full frame camera, but lets just call it the equivalent of a 24-70mm. As you would expect from a kit lens it looks to be quite flexible, with a minimum focus distance of 13cm at its widest setting, and 35cm at the 70, sorry, 69mm setting.

The lens becomes the smallest and lightest within Fujifilm’s X-Series lens line-up - it weighs just 135g. Put the lens on an X-A5 and the combination weighs just 496g.
Price and Availability
----------------------------------------
The Fujifilm X-A5 will be available as a kit with the Fujinon XC15-45mmF3.5- 5.6 OIS PZ lens from February 2018, priced at £549

The Fujinon XC15-45mmF3.5- 5.6 OIS PZ lens will be available from March 2018, in Silver and Black, priced at £259

The full specification of the Fujifilm X-A5 is available on Fujifilm’s website -

We hope to have our hands on a review sample shortly, so look out for our full review shortly
