I wrote The Bees with my friend Daniel Tashian years ago, before I even had a publishing deal. I had just lost my grandmother, sister-in-law, and neighbor all in the same year... around that same time I fell in love with The Secret Life of Bees, a book that reminded me of my grandmother. One day while I was mowing the lawn, I started humming the chorus… “I can hear the bees buzzin' through the walls” … it eventually got to Lee Ann Womack, and the rest is history!
