August 2025 Update:
Hey Guys! It's time for another monthly update post! Pokemon Leaf Green will be concluding this month, Part 37 is the final part followed by a bonus video for Trainer Tower. Then the next playthrough will be a Super Mario World Hack called Mario Gives Up, It has a bit of a dark plot that an official Mario game would never have. I will do text boxes for this game but you'll mostly see them at the beginning of videos and then after I would just be commenting on stuff in the game, in some cases it may trigger a tangent. So I am returning to text boxes but not to a highly substantial degree, so it's less text boxes than what you saw in my Barbie Magic Pegasus playthrough. I'm doing Mario Gives Up so that you have something to watch while I make some future playthroughs ahead of time. These Future playthroughs will be part of my RockaPeteDX Relaunch, Videos will still have text boxes but I will have a new Channel Avatar and Banner and videos will have a new intro which will just have sound effects and it'll be a very quick intro. I will probably make a trailer for the relaunch, so I need to have footage from multiple games.
Now to talk about my VGM List channel, It was channel I created in 2009 because at the time, I had started listening to music on a MP3 Player and I wanted to share my favorite video game music. Back in 2009, I was watching a channel called Sonikdude101, A channel that is no longer active because the guy behind that channel had moved on to Ant Dude. So anyway, for a period of time in 2009, He was doing a VGM List which didn't last long but that's what inspired me to later create my own VGM list on a separate channel. I had done VGM list videos for a long time, I had also done Top 5 Tuesdays from 2014 to I believe 2018, I could be wrong and if I am, I am not able to check if I am or not. As for why that is, Well on August 1st 2025, VGMusicMachine was terminated due to copyright strikes. MUSO was having Mario and Donkey Kong videos taken down on behalf of Nintendo. Gosh, I wish Nintendo wasn't so overly strict with the music in their games being on YouTube, Like okay, they have the right to do this. However, Other video game companies don't do this, they don't gatekeep their game music like Nintendo does. I don't think having uploads of nintendo music actually hurts nintendo, it's not losing them money, they make plenty of money from game and console sales, even when a game makes less sales, it still a lot of money, like why focus on copyright protection? For music, I feel like the composer should have a say in whether or not their work should be shared on YouTube. I think uploading video game music to YouTube can actually help a game gain more attention. I know there is the Nintendo Music App but I would assume that requires internet. You know what doesn't require internet? Listening to music on the regular music app! You can just sync video game music to your device and listen to it that way. That's why I am not going to get the Nintendo Music App, I don't need it and perhaps that would apply to a lot of other people. Some people might have it and that's fine, you do you.
So yeah, I lost my VGM list channel and I'm not going to create a new channel, I am fine with losing it. At this point, I feel like I don't need to share my favorite video game music and it's one less thing I have to work on every week. I had a good run with sharing my favorite VGM tracks but I'm just ready to move on from it. I can always point out the music I like in my playthroughs, it's really not a big deal. I probably should've deleted my Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda videos on VGMusicMachine when I had the chance but I didn't, oh well. R.I.P VGMusicMachine 2009 - 2025.
Now let's talk about RockaPete Longplays, I am 3 videos away from 100 Longplays and I want my 100th Longplay to be a RPG. After that I plan to take a big break from Longplays because I will want to focus on this channel more. Then when I make longplays again, I wouldn't publish any until I have a big back log of them, Like I would probably start publishing again once I have made 20 longplays. We'll see.
So I had a good vacation in Grand Bend last month, I did play Mario Kart World on 50cc, Eventually I will play on 100cc and 150cc if I ever get to it, I always play on 50cc first. I also did go to an ice cream shop and I got something that is similar to a DQ blizzard. I also did mini golf and I spent time watching YouTube videos. I also made Grilled Cheese sandwiches for dinner on most days and I did make peanut butter toast and cinnamon toast as well. I did also eat candy and cookies but I've cut back after the trip. So It was a fun trip!
Last month I also went to Niagara Falls with my friends and I had a fun time seeing the falls and going to all the different attractions like the big sky wheel, the go carts, and wax museum. I also went into a Zombie shooting thing which was intense. It's not something I'm really super into but I don't mind doing that sort of thing if I'm with friends. We had a late dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. It was the first time I ever went to that restaurant. I had a rainforest cafe shirt when I was a kid, so it was cool to finally go to the restaurant on that shirt. It has all these animatronic animals which is cool. I also saw a fish tank there and this one fish kept getting stuck in the corals and another fish would try to help it get out. This one fish would later go back to that same spot again and again, like what was it trying to do? I think it wanted to go beyond a certain point but it couldn't. During this day trip, the parents of one of the friends were at Fallsview Casino and after we were done at the restaurant, the parents take us to the casino to I guess let us see what it's like. We didn't gamble, but the parents did, I was just sitting at a table with my friends. My friends were just having free hot drinks and we were at the casino until after 1 and I wasn't really a fan of that when the original plan was to leave at midnight. I honestly don't think we needed to go to the casino, it wasn't necessary. After the parents drove by the falls at night, we should've been heading home. It's fine if the parents want to be at the casino, But I don't think it's fair to drag me and my friends into their activity. If this sort of trip happened again, I just want to go to the attractions, eat at a restaurant and do nothing else. It was was a good trip otherwise!
So now this month, My mom is 65 years old, She would officially be a senior. So I am having people come to my house for dinner tomorrow. (August 3rd) On August 4th, it will be the Civic Holiday where I live and I am going on a hike with my Dad, Brother and a friend. We will hike and then eat at an independent family owned restaurant, It should be a good time.
Later in August, there will be the Canadian National Exhibition and of course I do want to go, I did buy a pass from Walmart that covers both admission and rides and I will have to use it this year. It costed only $50 which isn't too bad. I'm not sure who I will be going with but I will start the conversation about going to it with my dad and he can figure things out for that. I don't think I would be going there alone like I did last year.

Anyway, Here are the hints, This game let's you play as 2 characters and each of them have their own mode. There is a third mode where you can switch between the 2 characters. This game is better than its prequel as it has more original level design with some copy and paste level design from a another game in the series. This game features a character that appears in one other game and in that other game, that character's life tragically comes to an end. July 2025 Update:
Hey Guys! Here is another update post. So yeah, I am currently doing Pokemon Leaf Green again and I get the impression that some people didn't see the video that revealed that playthrough, I have seen comments about the lack of commentary. In the reveal video I was very informative about what to expect for the playthrough. Some people may have just found my channel days after that reveal video went public. So I will repeat the information in this post for I guess convenience sake. So I did a Pokemon Leaf Green playthrough in 2011 and it had its flaws, The computer I used in 2011 was not the best, it operated on Windows XP and I used windows movie maker and could not make HD videos. I was also using an emulator AVI Record feature and quality for that can be hit or miss. There were also audio desync issues and I had no idea how to speed up battles. So for some time I've wanted to do the playthrough again but make it better but I had decided that since the original playthrough didn't have text box commentary, I wasn't going to do text boxes for this redo playthrough and that's just the direction I want to take with it, Plus I needed a break from text boxes which brings me into the next topic for this post.
The way I've been doing the text commentary has been very time consuming, too time consuming. It was to a point where I didn't have time to do much else besides work on videos, I would have no time to go on long walks. It's a lot of work to add text boxes to every minute of a video, there are moments where I don't know what to say and then I'm not motivated to work on the text boxes. I will waste time watching videos on YouTube instead but eventually I get back to it and I do manage to finish the video. I have even procrastinated before even starting the text commentary. So I could be doing these videos faster if I just start right away and don't lose motivation to do it when there is a moment of nothing to talk about. Doing Text boxes on gameplay videos can kind of feel like a chore. Don't get me wrong, as an autistic person who finds talking awkward, text commentary is easier to do than voice commentary even though it is more time consuming but I can more easily fix mistakes with text commentary but I can't exactly do the same with voice commentary. So I don't hate text commentary nor do I intend to stop doing it for the time being.
So moving forward, I won't insert text boxes to every minute of the video, there will be moments of no text boxes for like 2 or 3 minutes give or take. So like if a game has levels, I'd do one discussion per level but not for the entire level. That's pretty much how I'm doing it for an upcoming playthrough. This playthrough will be a celebration of 15 years of recording playthroughs and since this is a 15th anniversary, I will torture myself with a game that doesn't appeal to me and it may or may not appeal to you either. I have already completely made this playthrough and it starts on July 6th and it's only 5 videos and it will be a weekend Playthrough and no, I won't be doing weekend playthroughs all the time, I'm just doing it for this game. I will just tell you what game it is right now, The game is........ Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus for the Game Boy Advance. Yep, I am actually playing a Barbie game. I never thought I'd ever touch a Barbie game but here I am. At least this game was made by Way Forward, the same devs who made Shantae and Mighty Switch Force. It actually doesn't feel too girly, playing as a female character isn't something I haven't done already. You do have magic spells which is also not exclusive to barbie games. You will however see a lot of pink but only in the first few levels, Then you just go to levels that take place in common environments. So I was more tortured by the pink and the fact that it's a Barbie game.
I have also decided to discontinue the intro in my playthrough videos as well as the end screens. I've noticed a lot of the video game channels I watch don't even do end screens, so not having one feels justified, plus I do feel like it's kind of redundant. You can literally find the subscribe button on the video page and you can find the playlist for a playthrough on my channel. As for the Intro, I do feel like it's given my videos more of an identity and it has definitely made my videos stand out, so you might wonder why I would want to discontinue it. I started having the intro in my videos since mid 2013 when I changed my username from l4good to GoodGamer1994. With that new username, I felt like my videos should have an intro. Then I continued the intro when my username became RockaPeteDX in 2018 and I did have to update it. So I've had this intro in my videos for so many year. As I am changing my approach to text commentary, I feel like my channel is entering a new chapter. I also feel like the intro is getting kind of stale. Maybe down the road I will make a new intro and it would be shorter, but that will take some time to figure out. I also want to create a new channel Avatar and Banner, those things are feeling outdated, Especially the banner, I haven't made a Top 5 list in so long, It's like the banner promises content that I don't really make anymore, So eventually I will work on something for that.
So I will work on playthroughs every other week and only one video per day while I'm doing the Leaf Green videos, Maybe I'd do another game without text boxes just to buy me some more time, If I do that, I would just play a Super Mario World hack, We'll see. On weeks where I don't work on later playthroughs, I will focus on longplays.
Next week however, I won't work on any videos, that's because from July 5th to the 12th, I will be away in Grand Bend once again. This is the third year in a row of doing a Grand Bend Vacation, but this time instead of being at my Aunt and Uncle's cottage, I will be at a cousin's cottage. On the day that you are seeing this update, I am already on my way to Grand Bend, this was a scheduled post. I think it should be fun and relaxing.
Also, Last month, I've done some crazy long walks, on one day I've walked over 30,000 steps and ended up burning 940 calories, Maybe that's too much for some people but not for me, of course it helps to drink water to keep your energy up, I'm sure I have my limits, but I clearly haven't reached them and I will make sure I never do. There are people who have actually gone beyond that 30K steps but I'm sure they took the necessary precautions.
Also, I did get a Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World and I have not gotten around to playing it yet, I did at least set up the system and do the transfer. I've just been busy making videos. But perhaps, I am playing Mario Kart World on my vacation just in hand held mode. Maybe I will post about my thoughts on it later on, either that or I'll talk about it in my August update post.
Lastly, I did celebrate Canada Day which was on July 1st as it always is. The celebration for it with my family actually happened on June 29th and we only had my oldest sister, her husband and kids and my third oldest sister and her boyfriend over for dinner and we had a cake. Everyone else was busy with other plans but it was a decent gathering.
