* 65 cities generate 60% of total e-waste, with hotspots like Seelampur (Delhi), Moradabad (UP), Bhiwandi (Maharashtra).
Recycling Reality:
* 322 formal units can process 2.2 MT annually.
* Yet, more than 50% is handled informally by kabadiwalas and scrap dealers.
Health Hazards:
* Respiratory Illnesses: Open burning and acid treatment lead to chronic bronchitis and asthma (76–80% informal workers).
* Neurological Damage: Lead and mercury exposure causes cognitive decline in children.
* Skin and Eye Disorders: Direct contact leads to rashes, burns, dermatitis, and eye irritation (up to 100% in some clusters).
* Genetic and Systemic Impacts: DNA damage, oxidative stress, endocrine disruption; millions of children affected worldwide.
* Syndemic Effect: Risks worsen with poverty, malnutrition, and poor housing, leading to higher miscarriage and preterm births.
