Iโm hard at work creating some long form videos on how to actually make money as a writer, including interviews with several full-time writers whoโve made a living as writers for years.

An artist friend posted on FB that sheโd written an article about something personal.
She represented the article as her views on an important topic.
She isnโt a writer.
And I was eager to read her personal take.
I clicked enthusiastically.
And saw the ChatGPTesque nature of the article immediately.
I felt cheated.
I was SO disappointed.
I didnโt give a shit if her writing was โpoorโโI wanted HER views. I wanted to know HER experiences.
Some of the best books Iโve read were grammatical and structural โfailures.โ
Yet, I LOVED them.
Writing isnโt about connecting dots.
Itโs about conveying human EMOTION.
Itโs about MOVING people.
Over-reliance on AI and ChatGPT for writing opens the door to us forgetting that writing is about conveying HUMAN ideas.
Every great movement on earth began with the written or spoken word.
ChatGPT and AI content is dull and insipid.
ChatGPT and other LLMs were trained on content created for another robot โ Googlebot.
โSEOโ content is some of the worst writing Iโve ever read (or been paid to write ๐).
ChatGPT was trained on this drivel and now spews out even worse drivel that collectively suppresses the overall quality of human communication.
However: This mess also represents a massive opportunity.
The opportunity is this:
Itโs never been more important for HUMANS to create and to THINK.
While the quality of writing collectively goes down because of AI, you have the opportunity to increase your writing quality so high that the difference becomes impossible to ignore.
Weโre already seeing the โsame old same oldโ crap across websites, written by AI, โbang me over the head for some excitement because this shit is so boring.โ
Who reads that crap?
Not me.
Businesses are dreaming when they think their target market is too stupid to recognize that the business was too lazy to (a) THINK an original thought and (b) get a human to write it down.
What an opportunity to write beautifully prose!
AI is not a threat to artists.
Itโs an opportunity.
Donโt buy the hype.
STAY THE COURSE.
Focus on your HUMAN art and skills because these skills will become SCARCE and thus increase in VALUE.
