We human beings are said to be social animals, that we are naturally drawn to interact with each other.

And we do so mostly because we need something from others.

But some of our interactions, however, are more selfless—they are not based on others’ usefulness.

In them, we don’t treat others like objects, but as “subjects”.

In philosophy, this kind of relationship is known as “intersubjectivity”.

In this video, we will talk more about intersubjectivity, as well as the influential distinction made by the Austrian Jewish philosopher Martin Buber (1878-1965) in human relationships.
