Skill-enhancement for Under-Represented Groups in Education (SURGE) workshop

Dates: 22-28 Dec-2024

Application / Registration fees: None

Number of Participants: 25

Location: IISER Pune Campus

Type: Hands-on, fully residential, mandatory stay on campus, all experiments performed by every participant

Travel expenses: Reimbursed as per institute norms

Accommodation: Lodging and boarding in IISER by the organizers on room sharing basis

Certificates: On successful completion of the workshop. 100% attendance is mandatory

Content: Restriction- based gene cloning; in silico plasmid editing and primer designing; gene expression quantification (qPCR); protein expression check and confirmation

Other features: Visits to academic/ industrial facilities; talks on advanced techniques in biology by reputed scientists


Who can apply

To apply, students must meet all of the following three criteria:

Currently enrolled in a post graduate course (M.Sc. or IV-V year of an Integrated Masters Program / BTech/ MBBS/BAMS in any branch of life-sciences

Belong to any of the five categories: SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Women.

Enrolled in an institute from a non-metro (i.e. Category Y and Z) city. This essentially means that students studying in institutes located in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune CANNOT apply.
