Over this past weekend, I made the mistake of playing in a tournament after not having trained for four months... let's say my rating will drop 150+ points from 1774 to high 1500s or low 1600s 😬
This past weekend was actually quite humbling losing to a 1200 and multiple 1500s as it has lit a fire under me to get back into serious training (after my four month hiatus) and really go hard the next three weeks until the US Open in December.
I've already enrolled in U1800, U1900, U2000 for US Open and have heard seeding matters quite a bit. What do you guys think I should do?

Let's say your league rating is hypothetically 1800 USATT points and you get placed into a group with all players rated much lower (i.e. 1400-1500 rating)...
So essentially if you win every game, you can win one point but if you lose any game you drop 50 points each loss...
What would you do?

How do you guys deal with "nice guys" in table tennis matches?
Last week during a tournament, I was playing a chopper and he kept complimenting me after every point...
"Nice shot man!"
"Wow that shot was amazing!"
"Great loop!"
I won the first game fairly easily, but then proceeded to lose 1-3 and I felt like the constant compliments threw me off my game.
A similar thing happened tonight during league, I was playing a Korean uncle who was a J-Pen player that was a lot lower rated than me (1500 vs my 1787 league rating).
During the first game, he kept giving me raving compliments...
"Wow that's amazing!"
"Beautiful shot!"
"That's was a great shot!"
I found it hard for me to take the game seriously...
Although I was up 2-1, my opponent ended up bringing it to game 5.
Side note: this particular guy also took forever between points (to get the ball and set-up for serve / receive) so this super slow pace also threw me off (not to mention a few of his serves were illegal).
I started getting nervous and wasn't playing my game, ultimately losing 9-11 in game 5.
I didn't call out the illegal no toss serves at the time since I didn't wanna be "that guy" who takes league super seriously, but at the end of the day when points are on the line, the game is supposed to be serious.
After these two losses, I'm realizing I have a hard time playing against these "nice guys"...
How do you guys deal with these type of players?
Normally I just say "thank you" politely, but I realized for me to play well, I need to be in the zone where I'm more serious and focused.
Also curious how you navigate calling people out for serving illegally or disrupting the pace of the game without being a dick about it lol.
