I've been posting about sleep for 12 months now.



Someone asked me why sleep?



๐—”๐—ป๐˜€๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ: Sleep is a matter of life or death to me.

I lived far from school. I'd spend the first lesson of each day with my head in my hands. I was consistently a zombie.๐ŸงŸ



๐—”๐˜ ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†:



โ€ข I needed more sleep than those around me to function
โ€ข My hangovers were on another level compared to my peers
โ€ข Any trips/travel sharing a room with someone was a disaster for me
โ€ข I was awoken very easily and had issues coping the next day if done so



๐—ช๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ:



โ€ข As time passed, I hated active weekends as I needed that time to catch up on sleep
โ€ข Mornings were a pain, I was a top performer but you'd rarely see me in earlier than 09:00
โ€ข Holidays I just wanted to sleep and I skipped on any early incursions or late nights out.
โ€ข Any holiday or travel, having my own room was a non negotiable. I paid 1k Euros on a ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ company trip once to ensure I had my own hotel room.

๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ:



โ€ข I felt like shit most the time
โ€ข I'd wake up at 3am every day in a cold sweat
โ€ข My sleep got progressively worse leading me to full on insomnia
โ€ข To get an ok nights sleep, I'd often need to spend 11-12 hours in bed

The greatest pain I felt during this whole time was being so inconsistent. Which Matt turned up any given day felt like a dice roll. ๐ŸŽฒ

โ€ข Take these sleeping pills and anti depressants...



Had I not figured out from a deep level how to fix my issues, I might not be here now.



Given that 20-30% of the population are on anti depressants and/or sleeping pills (the 2 are normally the same thing). I know my story isn't the only one.

Difference from 2019 (my 2nd Spartan Race) to 2024 (14th Race).

Not going to lie. I made a lot of sacrifices, but I would do it all 100 times again.

On slide 2 you can see my Garmin sleep scores from 2021.

This was 'after' the worst of my insomnia. It is a rough place to be.

You are left thinking often 'Is this my life now?'

To get a week with the lowest score being 83 would have been a dream. ๐Ÿ˜

โ€ข I woke up a few times this week to pee during the night. I know why. I've not been drinking enough water during the mornings. Hence I'm often overcompensating in the evening. It didn't wreck my sleep, but it isn't optimal.

Hey Everyone,

I've been going through quite a tough learning curve on YouTube over the last 2 years, but long story short I'm still committed. :)
