WOW! The short-term bounce I outlined in my last video played out perfectly, and the selling pressure continued into close. The chart shows some key areas of support to mark down! (SPY)

I need to clarify a few things from my recent post about SPYI and ROC dividends to make sure thereās no confusion.
Clarifying ROC Dividends & Tax Treatment:
1. ROC dividends donāt matter in a Roth account because all withdrawals, dividends or capital gains, are tax-free. Roth accounts are funded with after-tax dollars, so thereās no additional tax benefit from ROC.
2. ROC dividends also donāt matter in IRAs and 401(k)s because all withdrawals from these accounts are taxed as ordinary incomeāregardless of whether the earnings came from capital gains, qualified dividends, or ROC. Thereās no distinction, and no extra tax advantage.
3. The only time ROC dividends are actually beneficial for tax purposes is in a taxable brokerage account (cash or margin account). Thatās where the tax deferral benefits of ROC apply
Just wanted to clear that up!

Market Update ā More Selling Pressure Ahead?
Today was a VERY rough day for the markets. Now a ~2% decline may not seem like a huge deal, but there's a series of very concerning economic data that was released, and thereās strong potential for further selling pressure next week. Here are the 3 reasons behind today's sell-off, and #2 & #3 is the MOST important! (in my opinion)
1. Consumer sentiment is falling
- The University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index fell to 64.7 in Januaryāa 10% decline, much steeper than expected.
- Lower sentiment means weaker consumer spending, which drives most of GDP.
2. Inflation expectations are rising
- The five-year inflation outlook jumped to 3.5%, the highest since 1995!!!
- High inflation expectations force the Fed to keep rates higher for longer, which is especially bad for higher risk assets (Small Caps)
3. Services PMI came in MUCH worse than expected! And this one is VERY important!
- The US Services PMI came in at 49.7 vs. expectations of 53, the lowest level in 25 months!
- The services sector accounts for around 70% of GDP!
- A PMI below 50 means contraction in the services sector, signalling that economic growth is slowing down harder than expected.
- Historically, when this happens, the Fed is inclined to cut interest rates to stimulate growth.
But thereās a big problem.
- With inflation expectations rising and recent inflation data coming in VERY hot, the Fed cannot cut rates without fuelling inflation further.
- This creates a conflicted market outlookāthe economy is slowing, but the Fed canāt pivot yet because inflation is still too high.

Whatās Next?
Given this high inflation and slowing economy setup, I believe selling pressure will continue next week as markets digest these conflicting signals.

- Nasdaq 100 š» 2.5%

- Big Tech taking a hit ā Apple š»3%, TSLA š»5%, Nvidiaš»6%, AVGOš»5%
- Bitcoin š» 6.5%, ETH š»20%
The newly announced tariffs ā25% on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% on Chinese goods ā are sparking fears of an escalating trade war. In response, Canada, Mexico, and China have already announced retaliatory measures, adding even more uncertainty to the markets.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will impose 25% tariffs on approximately 155 billion Canadian dollars (about $106 billion USD) worth of U.S. goods, effective Tuesday.
President Claudia Sheinbaum has directed the implementation of protective tariffs and non-tariff measures against U.S. goods. While specific details and dollar amounts are pending, Mexico's response is expected to be significant.
China's Ministry of Commerce announced plans to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization and pursue additional countermeasures. Specific tariffs or dollar amounts have not been disclosed yet.
