MAGIC LEAP 2 AR HEADSET WILL TRY TO MAKE THE METAVERSE FEEL MORE WELCOMING

The Metaverse sounds appealing, but you probably won't be too keen on it if you're forced to wear a chunky headset just to dive in. Fortunately, that's not going to happen any time soon.

While the term has only recently become a somewhat controversial marketing buzzword, the technology behind the metaverse has been around for a long time. Virtual and augmented reality companies in particular have been trying to sell their ideas and products to consumers and corporate customers long before Facebook decided to change its name. However, neither VR nor AR has become mainstream yet, mainly due to the need to wear bulky headgear. This is why his second AR headset from Magic Leap is garnering attention in many ways.

RETRO GAMING IS OFFICIALLY MAKING A COMEBACK!

Google's Stadia is definitely making waves in the gaming community, but this tiny black-and-white analog gaming device promises nostalgia for all gamers from the '80s and '90s. Playdate (very adorable name) is developed by app developer Panic and backed by our favorite retro synth design company, Teenage Engineering. The Playdate is Gameboy-inspired, with bright yellow and a pocketable avatar. It has a black and white screen, controls, an A/B button, a pause button, and (wait) Crank!! It offers a completely different UX to the native game, literally adding a revolutionary new interaction and dimension to the game.

THE OPPO AIR GLASS 2 IS EASILY THE MOST FASHIONABLY SLEEK AR WEARABLE ON DISPLAY AT MWC 2023

In a sea of ski goggle-style AR headsets, OPPO's 2nd generation Air Glass is slim enough to be mistaken for real glasses. However, if you look closely, you'll notice a reflective display cleverly hidden in the eyepiece. For the wearer, however, the display impressively overlays virtual elements directly onto real life to help manage time, weather, notifications, and more.

Air Glass 2 is an Assisted Reality wearable with two displays, one in each eyepiece. The operation of these displays is based on MicroLEDs built into the frame, projecting images onto his SRG diffractive optical waveguide lens made of resin jointly developed by OPPO and Meta-Bounds. Lighter, more impact resistant and safer, these new lenses fit consumers' daily eyewear habits and are a perfect match for the Air Glasses 2.

The eyepieces are visually represented by a 0.13-inch green Micro LED display built into the side of the goggles, capable of outputting 1,000 nits per eye. It also has an ambient light sensor, a touchpad for registering input, and a microphone and speaker built into the Air Glass 2 temple chip to complete the entire wearable experience. The glasses are powered by a Snapdragon 4100 processor and the entire wearable is powered by his built-in 200mAh battery which has a 3-hour lifespan and can be recharged via a pogo pin charger attached to the temple edge of the glasses.

All hardware features a magnesium-lithium alloy outer structure and weighs just 38 grams, about 8 grams heavier than its predecessor, but with double the engineering. Its lightweight design also means that Air Glass 2 cannot be used as a standalone wearable. It must be wirelessly connected to your smartphone and can stream data to your eyepiece to display navigation data, live translations, calendar notifications, weather forecasts, fitness tracking data and other records. Microphones and speakers help the wearer make calls, perform voice commands, and listen to music.

WITH THESE AI-GENERATED SUPERHERO MOTORBIKE HELMETS, SAFETY HAS NEVER LOOKED SO SEXY.

Midjourney and other similar AI art-generators are fantastic brainstorming tools, and I can't help but reiterate that. They produce motivational visuals in a couple of seconds, which are sometimes used directly and frequently used indirectly as design inputs. Whether you're developing concept images for an imagined Tesla Cyberbike or Marvel-themed Nike footwear, the AI bots do a pretty excellent job of condensing the concept-generation phase from weeks to mere minutes. But, not everything they produce is "useful" in the sense of industrial design. These superhero-themed helmets resemble one another quite a bit. These futuristic helmets were created by Instagram user Coldstar Art and are based on well-known movie legends from various universes.
