There was a time in my life exactly 24 years ago when I had to miss one year of school because my parents couldn’t afford paying my monthly school fee. A sudden financial disaster made us nosedive into a crisis which affected one year of my academic life. However, my parents strangely kept on subscribing to one thing despite of sheer shortage of money in the house and that is the Sunday Dawn Newspaper that you see in my hand today.
Back in my childhood me and my 4 siblings used to wait at the gate of our house every Sunday for the newspaper man to deliver our weekly Dawn. There used to be a race amongst us as to who will read the newspaper first. I absolutely used to cherish reading it, making notes and marking difficult words to improve my vocabulary. I think it used to cost only Rs.10 back in those days. I cannot thank my parents enough for investing those 10 rupees in times when we had several household needs running after those 10 rupees. My dear mama and papa your investment is bearing all the fruits today. I don’t have words to thank you.

ٹھیک 24 سال پہلے میری زندگی میں ایک ایسا وقت آیا جب مجھے ایک سال کے لیے اسکول چھوڑنا پڑا کیونکہ میرے والدین میری اسکول کی ماہانہ فیس ادا کرنے کے متحمل نہیں تھے۔ ایک ناگہانی مالیاتی آفت نے ہمیں ایک ایسے بحران میں مبتلا کر دیا جس نے میری تعلیمی زندگی کا ایک سال متاثر کیا۔ تاہم، میرے والدین عجیب طور پر گھر میں پیسوں کی شدید کمی کے باوجود ایک چیز کو سبسکرائب کرتے رہے اور وہ ہے سنڈے ڈان اخبار جو آج آپ میرے ہاتھ میں دیکھ رہے ہیں۔
بچپن میں میں اور میرے 4 بہن بھائی ہر اتوار کو ہمارے گھر کے گیٹ پر اخبار والے کا انتظار کرتے تھے کہ وہ ہمارا ہفتہ وار ڈان ڈیلیور کرے۔ ہمارے درمیان یہ دوڑ لگی ہوئی تھی کہ پہلے اخبار کون پڑھے گا۔ میں اسے پڑھنے، نوٹ بنانے اور اپنی انگریزی بہتر بنانے کے لیے استعمال کرتا تھا۔ میرے خیال میں ان دنوں اس کی قیمت صرف 10 روپے تھی۔ میں اپنے والدین کا شکریہ ادا نہیں کر سکتا کہ انہوں نے ان 10 روپے کو ایسے وقت میں لگایا جب ان 10 روپے کے پیچھے ہماری کئی گھریلو ضرورتیں چل رہی تھیں۔ میرے پیارے ماما اور پاپا (والد، مجھے امید ہے کہ آپ اپنی قبر سے سن رہے ہوں گے) آپ کی سرمایہ کاری آج رنگ لا رہی ہے۔ میرے پاس آپ کا شکریہ ادا کرنے کے لیے الفاظ نہیں ہیں۔
آج کوئی دن ایسا نہیں گزرتا جب میں اخبار نہ پڑھتا ہو۔ سیکھنے اور ترقی کی طرف میرے سفر میں میرے ذاتی ساتھی بننے کے لیے ڈان نیوز کا شکریہ۔
