"Communion: It is one of those words that is so important in our community because when we commune, we grow. We experience this together in church as we worship, but communion is also about sharing a gift or intimate fellowship. It is something that happens all around the grounds of Saint Barnabas and all throughout the year." -Parishioner Charles Colmark

By being present to others, we allow ourselves to be a living sign of God’s loving concern. We are all one human family, and we are bonded in Spirit by a God who is for us- not against us. Being present to others is a practice that recognizes this profound spiritual truth and shifts our focus so that we might seek connection rather than isolation. And as we learn to be present, we may begin to recognize that we are manifesting the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

One of the ways in which we manifest God 🌱 is by being present to those around us. Presence is something more than proximity. Being present is an art of paying attention. We may practice this presence many ways. We might greet others with more than a glance. We might serve the needs of others—whether they are strangers or whether they are known to us. We might open ourselves to conversations that permit others to empty their hearts.
