We have launched a fundraising appeal to help us restore the site after the act of vandalism that occurred at Shofuso on Wednesday June 15, 2022, resulting in damages to the Hiroshi Senju murals and house exterior. Consider making a donation if you can. Your support makes a difference. Donate at givebutter.com/e87EVr or text "Shofuso" to 53-555 to make your donation.

Our architectural bus tour series is back!

This fall, the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia (JASGP) is partnering with DesignPhiladelphia and Docomomo US to present Shofuso 63rd Anniversary: “Finding A Bit of Japan” in Architecture and Landscape Site Visits and Guided Tours.

Inspired by A Bit of Japan is seen in the Eaves, a handmade photo album that Shofuso’s architect Junzo Yoshimura made during the time he lived and worked at the Raymond Farm in New Hope, PA, these site visits are curated to find “a bit of Japan'' and to highlight Japanese influence in architecture and landscape design in greater Philadelphia and surrounding areas. The program consists of two different full-day tours that include transportation, admission to sites, exclusive tours, and a bento box lunch. JASGP members and students with ID will receive a discount.

On Saturday, October 9th, we will explore the Raymond Farm Center for Living Arts & Design and George Nakashima Woodworkers in New Hope, PA (register here: ow.ly/zcm050G7jjN). On Saturday, October 30th, we will travel up to the Hudson Valley to visit The James Rose Center for Landscape Architectural Research and Design and The Russel Wright Design Center / MANITOGA (get tickets: ow.ly/Uf2F50G988L).

This program offers a unique look at the midcentury collaborations that created Modernism: we hope you'll be able to participate! If you have any question, please contact us at info@japanphilly.org
