There are seven different stages of balding at the crown, also known as balding crown stages or female and male pattern baldness stages (MPB). The Norwood Scale and the Ludwig scale determine the severity of crown of head hair loss - whether it be mild or severe for a particular treatment.
The stages are:
Stage 1 - Gradual thinning of hair without noticeable shedding.
Stage 2 - Thinning an M-shaped hairline.
Stage 3 - Apparent balding, receding hairline (may appear U, M, or V-shaped)
Stage 4 - Significant hair loss at the back of the head.
Stage 5 - Horseshoe/U-shaped textured hairline at the crown.
Stage 6 - Visible scalp with extensive areas devoid of any remaining hairs.
Stage 7 - Receding to the crown with limited strands remaining.
It's hard to know when someone might lose their hair. It could happen early on or much later in life. People with a family history of going bald might start losing their hair earlier than others. #hairloss #stagesofbalding #balding #baldingcrown
