With great pleasure I welcome you to a special illustrated music lecture on Tiruvarur temple.
Organized by Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, this program is happening at Vani Mahal, G N Chetty Road, T Nagar, Chennai on 4th June, 2023, Sunday between 10-12 noon.
Selected compositions on Tiruvarur and thevaram verses shall be rendered by Vid S Shrivathsan.
The meaning of the name Tiruvarur, story of Muchukundha, traditional history on the unique traditions of the temple, Thyagaraja Swami and the mystic rituals, the grand annual 55 day brahmothsavam, the tallest chariot, who is a vidanga moorthy?, grand architecture of the temple complex, famous Muchukunda murals in the 1000 pillared hall, the Kamalalayam tank, the secrets of Deva Sayarakshai, a few forgotten traditions of the temple, epigraphic details, musical instruments in the temple are some of the topics that will be discussed.
This program is open to all and there is no registration required.

The registrations are open for the upcoming webinar series on Regional Development of Chola Temple Architecture.
The mighty Cholas are popular for the grandeur of their temple complexes. Apart from world acclaimed wonders like Thanjavur, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram, there are thousands of temples that were built under their patronage. The vast Chola Empire that extended beyond the Indian peninsula, accommodated local existing traditions in temple construction wherever they went. This paved way to a whole list of shrines being expanded in regions away from their core area. The northern districts, western districts (Kongu region), southern districts and parts of Andhra and Telangana resonate with Chola temples all around. This series scheduled once in two months shall explore lesser known Chola temples around south India. We are starting with the northern districts of TN.

இதிலும் திருவொற்றியூர் ஆதிபுரீஸ்வரர் கோயில் தேவார மூவரும் பாடிப் பரவிய தலம். பல்லவர் தொடங்கி வெவ்வேறு காலத்திலும் வாழ்ந்த மன்னர்கள் செய்த பல்வேறு திருப்பணிகள், அதனுடன் பல சுவையான வரலாற்று சம்பவங்களும் தெரிவிக்கும் கல்வெட்டுகள் பெற்று விளங்கும் கோயில்.
மாணிக்கத் த்யாகராக ஈசன் விளங்கும் இந்த தலம் குறித்த புராணச் செய்திகள், கட்டிடக்கலை, வரலாறு, கல்வெட்டு, திருவிழாக்கள் என்றிவற்றை பற்றியெல்லாம் நவம்பர் 8ஆம் தேதி மாலை நேரலையில் பார்க்கலாம்.

கந்தன் வரலாறும் வழிபாடும் தொடரின் இறுதிப் பகுதி இது. முருகாற்றுப்படையில் நக்கீரர் பாடிய தலங்களின் வரிசையில் அவர் இறுதியாகப் பாடியிருப்பது 'பழமுதிர்ச்சோலை'.
குறிஞ்சி நிலக்கடவுளான முருகன் தன்னடியார் மனங்குளிர தன் தேவிமாரோடு முதிர்ந்து தேனொழுகும் பழங்களை சொரியும் மரங்களடர்ந்த மலைக்காடுகளில் ஆடியருளும் நிலையை குறிப்பதாகக் கொள்வர் சிலர்.
இது பெரும்பான்மை மக்களால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டது.
ஆயினும் மதுரை அருகேயுள்ள திருமால் தலமான திருமாலிருஞ்சோலை என்று ஆழ்வார்கள் பாடிய தலமான அழகர்மலை மேலுள்ள தலம் தான் பழமுதிர்ச்சோலை என்றும் ஒரு கருத்தை முன் வைக்கிறார்கள். இக்கருத்தின் படி அடையாளம் காணப்படும் தலத்தின் தொன்மை ஆய்விற்குட்படுத்தி அறிய வேண்டியது. அதற்கான தரவுகளை ஆய்ந்தறிந்த அறிஞர்கள் கூற்று என்ன என்பதை இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் அறியலாம்.
முடிவாக, தொடக்கம் இங்கு என்று அறியமுடியா மறை போன்று கந்தனும் காலம் அறியவொன்னா நிலையில் இந்திய வழிபாட்டு மரபில் வணங்கப்பட்டுள்ளான். வேதவடிவினனாக, வேதத்தின் முடிந்த முடிபாக, அதன் உள்ளுறையும் பிரணவத்தின் பொருளாக சான்றோர் கண்டறிந்த முருகன் எனும் தத்துவம் சென்ற இடந்தொறும் பொதுவான வழக்கத்தோடு அவ்வவ்விடங்களில் உள்ள விசேஷ மரபுகளிலும் உள்வாங்கப்பட்டு அதன் மூலம் அவனை தேடி அடைந்துள்ளனர்.
திருமுருகாற்றுப்படையில் நக்கீரர் இவ்விரண்டு வழிகளிலும் முருகனை தமிழர்கள் காலந்தோறும் வழிபட்டு வந்ததை எப்படி வலியுறுத்துகிறார் என்பதை இந்தத் தொடரின் இறுதிப் பகுதியில் காணலாம்.

வணக்கம். முருகப்பெருமான் குறித்த "கந்தன் வரலாறும் வழிபாடும்" தொடரில் இன்று நாம் பார்க்கவிருப்பது ஐந்தாம் படைவீடாக நக்கீரர் பாடிய குன்றுதோறாடல் என்னும் தலம் பற்றி. குன்றிருக்கும் இடமெல்லாம் குமரன் இருப்பான் என்பது பழம்பெரும் நம்பிக்கை. குன்றுகள் தோறும் கோயில் கொண்ட குமரன், வள்ளி தேவசேனையோடு கூட ஆடிக்களிக்கும் நிலையை குறிப்பதாகக் கொள்வர். அதாவது இது பரங்குன்றம், சீரலைவாய் போன்ற தனிக் கோயில் இல்லை, இது பொதுவாக எல்லா குன்றுகளையும் குறிக்கும் என்று கொள்வர்.
ஆனால் தமிழகத்தின் வடக்கு எல்லையிலுள்ள திருத்தணி தலம் தான் ஐந்தாம் படைவீடு என்ற கருத்தும் பல ஆண்டுகளாக வழக்கில் இருந்து வருகிறது.
இந்த வழக்கை எப்படி கருத்தில் கொள்வது? திருத்தணி தலம் நேரடியாக சொல்லாமல் மறைமுகமாக சொல்லக்காரணம் என்ன? இத்தலத்தின் வரலாற்று தொன்மை என்ன? இம்மலையின் தொன்மை, கோயிலின் தொன்மை, வழிபாட்டு முறைகள் என்பன போன்ற கேள்விகளுக்கு விடை காண இன்று மாலை நேரலையில் எங்களோடு இணைந்திருங்கள்.
