The Oregon BDR Experience : Episode 1 coming this Sunday.

In this episode, I leave home with my friend, Dr K, starting north of Seattle, Wa. We had a blast riding our fully loaded Tenere 700 adventure bikes on paved roads into the mountains around Mt Rainier and then over to Mt St Helens. We intended to camp on Section 1 of the Washington BDR. However, due to a slide and fires we had to re-route to Trout Lake. It turned out to be better than what we could've hoped for. After departing Wa state, we began our trek south on the ORBDR, starting at Hood River. We rode through the Oregon wine country before leaving pavement for gravel. The byways here were rocky and offered a little bit of challenge to make it interesting. Unfortunately, we had to re-route to Hwy 35 due to road closures (fires) and ended up on pavement before regaining gravel at the start of Section 6. Our journey was a blissful ride full of amazing scenery and fantastic vistas AND dramatic views of the largest volcanoes in the PacNW along the way.

Enjoy these teaser pics from days 1 & 2.

New video coming on Sunday.

A preview of "The Oregon BDR Experience"
The Oregon Back Country Discover Route is a 750 mile long multi-day, off-pavement route, through some of the most diverse country in the west. We started in the pine infested forests of Southern Washington and rode through the volcanic mountains of the Oregon Cascades with a gradual ingress to the southern desert towards the Oregon/Nevada border. It is a prime rugged outdoor adventure experience that is not to be taken lightly. It is one of the hardest routes put together by the RideBDR organization. We completed this route in fall 2023. We were prepared to be self-sufficient in camping, rain, extreme desert heat, volcanic rock, mountain terrain all without the comfort of a cell phone in the remotest parts of eastern Oregon. I'll dare say, one of the remotest parts of the lower 48 states. You will note that I did not take my BMW GS this time out. Instead I took my new Yamaha Tenere 700 and put it to the test.  Did we do well? You decide. Stay tuned for more to come soon after.

Thanks for riding along,
~GrizzLee

Just a teaser from a trip a couple of weeks back. I was finally able to visit soem of my favorite places in British Columbia. Stay tuned for a full video production.

++++++++++
British Columbia as they say is "Super
Natural". A point I would never contest.

Some of the most spectacular country
on the planet can be found here.

Remote roads, deep glacial valleys, rain
forests, deserts, high mountains, lakes,
wildlife and endless vistas.

The Bridge River Complex is no
exception. It holds a special place
in my heart. I was glad to be able to
return after world events and mother
nature kept me away the past few years.
My visit was too brief but, a small taste
of this remarkable country is all I need
to renew my soul.

Join me as I share another spiritual
experience from my perspective. I think
you'll agree about the Super Natural
part.

Howdy folks,

The coastal regions of Washington, Oregon and Northern California are some of the most scenic in the lower 48 states. Although I have traveled most of these roads several times over the years, every time I go, I am still amazed and still discovering new places to explore. In this case, I explore parts of the Lost Coast and turn inland a bit to tour the Salmon River and out to the chain of volcanoes in starting in California and heading north before inclement weather set in and forced me to change plans.

In this episode, I leave my house on a Friday evening and end up camping with a fellow dual sport rider at the south end of the Hood Canal. The next day we make our way to the Washington coast and depart ways in Astoria, Oregon. From there, I travel solo along the Oregon coast and make camp at an Oregon state park near Tillamook Oregon where I have mishap with my stove. The following day I make my way down the Oregon Coast to Coos Bay where I finish my day out in the rain after fighting heavy traffic and congestion from construction.

I hope that I inspire others to explore and that the included maps will provide guidance for those who wish to follow in my steps.

Featured locations in this series include:
Washington Coast
Oregon Coast
Rogue River
Redwoods
California Lost Coast
Salmon River

As always, thanks for riding along.

Howdy folks,

Hoping to get back on track this year with riding. The past 2 years has been really stifling for me as we have been dealing with medical and life changing issues in our family along with everything else that has happened in our world that has forced some changes upon all of us.

Just a re-cap here...
I posted a teaser video a couple of months back of a trip that I thought I'd have finished documenting by now. I have a series of videos ready to go. Just putting the finishing touches on the last episodes. The first of these should be posted within a week. Maybe sooner...

Here is a brief description of that trip.

The coastal regions of Washington, Oregon and Northern California are some of the most scenic in the lower 48 states. Although I have traveled most of these roads several times over the years, every time I go, I am still amazed and still discovering new places to explore. Stay tuned. More coming.

Thanks for riding with me.

My Retro/Vintage Gaming Hobby

I Am a Child from the Dawn of the Video Game Age

Taking a side trip here away from my adventures here. Anyone who knows me personally, can attest that I am somewhat of a geek and so it’s no surprise that I became an mechanical/aerospace engineer by trade. With that stated, I always had an interest in building things and tinkering with electronics, etc.. As I was growing up in the 70's I was fortunate to experience and be able to participate in the dawn of a new era. It all started simple enough with my father coming back from a business trip in Texas one year with one of the first ever digital calculators. I was hooked. I loved the display, the tactile feel of the buttons and the ease of use. I was further inspired when I saw advanced calculators becoming available and even into my high school and college years where I always had to have the latest programmable calculators for my science, math and eventually engineering courses. Now this seems pretty minor in this day and age, but back then, looong before cell phones, home computers, high level object oriented programming languages, etc.. this was an exciting era for me.

A long time friend of mine came by for a visit one day and asked if it was OK to shoot video of my old video game collection and my "man cave" where I hibernate during the winter months when I am not out exploring.

Hey folks, I'll be posting a video within a week or so. I want to thank you for your patience. I should have 2-3 more videos in or around Christmas for you to enjoy with your eggnog and new farkles that Santa brought you.

I didn’t know it at the time, but I was at the beginning stages of bacterial pneumonia in late June. It took nearly all summer to over come it. With the borders closed, travel being limited, I must admit, it has been a quiet year for us at the RubiKon Ranch.

I have had lots of requests for new content. We love that you folks are eager to see more and appreciate our work. However, being an engineer with a family responsibilities and as such limits time to make video content. It is long down on my list of things to do. Family, Friends and work come first and foremost.

Secondly, I just wanted to note that RubiKon Adventures Is an independent, not for profit production outfit
Non of the content on this channel is sponsored, paid, or promoted for profit.
In other words, fully funded from the hard work of GrizzLee and his family. We make no money from this.

The truth be told, all RubiKon Video Productions are made for selfish reasons.
First and foremost, they are documentaries of our travels to share with family and friends.
The side benefit is that you get to watch and comment on these wonderful projects.
Subscribe to RubiKon Adventures and keep up to date on our travels.

My goal is quality over quantity. I want try to capture the spiritual experiences and pass them on to others in true form that is representative of what I experience

With that stated, please comment … Good or constructive, we’d love to hear from you.
Look me up on ADVRider.com (Username is GrizzLee)
If you are ever in my neck of the woods (Arlington, Washington) come by for a beer (after social distancing is over of course).

As always I wish to thank you for riding along.
