The Commander Rules Committee has given control of the Commander format to Wizards of the Coast. We will likely not be making a full video about this, as we are currently out of town. Below is a summary of what is happening and our thoughts on the future of Commander.
*Why did this happen?*
This is a direct result of the threats of doxxing, harm, and death the Rules Committee received for their decision to ban Dockside Extortionist, Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, and Nadu. It is honestly baffling and disgusting how some members of the Commander community have reacted to a handful of bans they donāt like. If you have threatened anyone over these bans, you are the problem, you donāt belong in our community, and you certainly donāt have any right to complain and whine about what happens to Commander going forward. Nitpicking Nerds has always worked towards fostering a safe and welcoming community and will continue to do so.
*Where does Commander go from here?*
Control of the format has passed onto Wizards of the Coast, which may have been an inevitable outcome as the format gained more and more popularity. However, it was accelerated by truly repulsive behavior of the worst members of the community. The former Rules Committee members are serving as āindividual advisors for the new management framework.ā Wizards of the Coast has said they do not want to change the vision of the format. Itās very likely that the format will continue to slowly improve over time like it has under the RC. This is not a death blow to Commander by any stretch.
*What other changes are on the way?*
We currently have no reason to believe Wizards of the Coast will initiate massive bannings or unbannings at the moment, especially on the heels of two monumental changes. The RC had been working on a system of four ābracketsā to help players more easily decipher power levels of decks, with each bracket containing different cards. This has been handed off to WotC and is still being worked on.
As we move forward in the next few months, donāt be one of the people riling up others by declaring Commander a ādead format.ā Donāt assume everything is worse just because something changed. Commander is still a fun, social format where players can enjoy decks and games of many varieties.

Example: Temple of the False God. Some players swear by it, others think it's trash. We want to know what other cards fall into this category!
