Mandy’s Apple Cinnamon Sourdough

Apple and cinnamon are a classic combination! Enjoy slices of this delicious sourdough plain, with butter, cream cheese or honey. Toast it or use it to make French toast. And even though it leans towards sweet, it pairs well with salty prosciutto! So, if you love apple pie or cinnamon rolls, give this recipe a try.

Apple & Cheddar Sourdough

The combination of apple and cheese in this loaf makes this bread perfect for serving with charcuterie boards. Salty meats pair well with the cheese-laden slices and the occasional little bites of sweetness from delicious apple. This bread is also delicious simply served with a little butter or honey, and it’s gorgeous when dunked into soups like carrot and ginger or ham and pea.

If you’re new to sourdough baking and you haven’t yet added any inclusions to your breads, this is a slightly more involved process but we’ve kept it as simple as possible and promise that it’s easier than it may seem. The important thing is to set timers to remind you to move on to the next step!

Strawberry Freakshake

This completely over-the-top and indulgent strawberry milkshake is topped with a fluffy cloud of whipped cream and every pink treat you can imagine! This recipe makes enough to fill one 350ml glass, but you can easily double or triple to make more, or you could split this recipe into two smaller glasses for a much tamer after-meal treat.

We topped these pretty pink freakshakes with big and small marshmallows, pink wafers, pink yoghurt covered pretzels, ice-cream shaped foam sweets, a juicy strawberry and some pink sprinkles. Have fun scouting the aisles for everything pink to top off your masterpiece!

Rhubarb Raspberry Mini Pavlovas

We love rhubarb season! This tart stalk holds such a unique flavour and seeing its beautiful red stems on the shelves means summer is finally here. We love a bowl of stewed rhubarb and custard, but this crimson vegetable is also the perfect topping for another favourite, Pavlova. It’s tart and slightly sour which is exactly the flavour that should be paired with a super-sweet meringue, which are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Whipped cream marries the two extremes, and fresh raspberries add another hit of summer sweetness.

We recommend making the most of the cooking effort that goes into the stewed rhubarb and doubling the amounts so that you have extra in the fridge perfect for that bit of custard, or on top of yoghurt or ice-cream. The rhubarb syrup is also great for adding to sparkling water or summer cocktails. Choose rhubarb with the reddest stalks for a more vibrant pink colour once cooked.
