In California, almond growers big and small had three days of freezing overnight temperatures that can kill their hopes of making a good crop. These circumstances came after ideal pollination weather the previous weeks when the sun was beaming down on beehives placed in over 1.6 million acres of almonds throughout the state. Bees were flying hard and working hard, pollinating every flower popping in this flash bloom because of the warm 75-80 degree weather.

Then, BOOM! The weather shifted, and in Northern California, almond growers had to decide how to keep their crops from freezing. Baby almonds are so small and delicate that they fall off the tree at temperatures below 32 degrees. And every degree matters- at 28 degrees, they have under 10% loss in a crop, but one degree less at 27 degrees, a loss can be up to 60%.

If you’ve played or watched football, this is what you call a “Hail Mary.” Farmers will turn on their irrigation to bring warmer well water up to the surface to help push the orchard temperatures above the freezing mark. Of course, when sprinklers hit low branches, there is still a loss, but it’s a sacrifice Farmers are willing to take when Mother Nature is about to kick them where the sun doesn’t shine.

Starting our YouTube journey was an idea sparked to resolve the issue for a high-demand of beekeeping information customers were requesting. We had no idea what we were getting into or how we would do it but decided to dive in head-first anyways.

We’ve hit more than 9000 subscribers and over 5 million views in less than two years. It has been an honor being here with you all and building friendships within our growing community. Nonetheless, we grind tirelessly to read every comment and answer every one of your emails & phone calls. Why? Because it matters to us! Ultimately, we’re only able to achieve our milestones because of you! So in our deepest gratitude- thank you!

**Giveaway alert!**

Just like getting stung by a bee or tasting a sweet spoonful of honey for the first time can stop us in our tracks- passing by an art display can do the same thing. These experiences all inspire reflection.

Artwork helps express values and creates an elevated sense of awareness that is likely already instilled within you if you are a Beekeeper. It can tell a story and form connections. It binds and brings people together in the exact same way keeping bees does.

Our path on this channel is to build stronger connections amongst our community. We believe this platform to be a vehicle to learn and move forward together. We are moved by the culture all of our friends here are creating, and we are thankful for it every day.

As a small token of our appreciation, we are doing a fun giveaway of Qty (3) queens OR a hat! To enter the contest you must complete BOTH steps:
1. Share one of your favorite videos from our channel on your social media and tag @thecaliforniabeekeeper
2. Then after flipping through the photos, comment below guessing what image you think we are painting on these mini queen mating nucs

The contest will end on February 20th at midnight PST. The winner will be randomly drawn and announced on Monday, February 21st.

Contestants must be located within the US only.

The one thing that really sticks out in my mind from being a toddler's mom is how amazing they are at bouncing back from the things life throws at them. One minute they can be screaming because they want to eat dinner using their dino fork rather than their fishy fork, and the next moment all is right again with the world. They are resilient.

I remember that rapid turnaround in emotions could leave me whirling — my son had already bounced back, but I was left with the residual feelings and had to remind myself that a bad moment does not make a bad day.

In beekeeping, we practice being more like our children- always remembering that bad days do turn around, and it is possible to find a way to recover. With wisdom attained through life experiences, we all can build resilience and have the courage to stand up and continue moving forward after unexpectedly getting knocked down.

Having a strong team and working together is important to us because it allows us to share ideas and responsibilities while working towards a common goal. This reduces stress which is essential in queen breeding- allowing everyone to be meticulous and thorough when completing their tasks.

Because we are also beekeepers, we understand and can relate to time sensitivities. We believe in creating systems in-house to ensure deadlines are met and therefore we are able to consistently uphold our commitments to customers.

Everything we do is for the purpose of serving and supporting our fellow beekeeping colleagues- from providing quality queens that you can to depend on to being available 7 days a week assisting you with excellent customer support. These are some of our main values and we are dedicated to enhancing customer satisfaction and building strong relationships with other beekeepers.

Enhancing your purchasing experience beginning to end is our top priority. Should you have any questions about queens or packages, or are interested in owning some for your own hives, call us directly at 530-354-7794, or visit our website at www.thecaliforniabeekeeper.com and fill out the order form at the bottom of the page.
