Us firefighters are in a position of authority in the community. We can order civilians off of scenes, and at times forcibly remove them. We can close roads, and direct traffic. Sometimes we even get to boss around police officers (complementary donuts in the comments guys 😉). But there comes a time when we have to ask our communities for help. I've been on fires where we had assistance from private dozer operators and ranchers with personal firefighting rigs, and they helped out a lot. And large-scale disasters is when community assistance is most often necessary. We can't forget how to ask for help from the community, especially when they are better equipped to deal with the disaster at hand. If there had been a military or first responder helicopter operating in the area, then I would fully support the fire chief's, decision to order the civilian bird off of the scene. But because there wasn't, and the civilian was the best equipped person to deal with that emergency, he should have been allowed to do his part, or rather in this case continue doing his part, as he had already made several successful rescues!

At any rate, the citizens of North Carolina and the nation as a whole have come together in an awe-inspiring manner. Where the federal government has yet again failed to deliver in a timely manner, the people of the USA, have proven that we will continue to have each other's backs, and I couldn't be prouder! Because when the time comes, no matter where we live, what our career is, or where we come from, we will all be first responders. God bless you all, and God bless America.

Ran a call today, after a minivan attempted to make a u-turn in front of a Semi and got hit head on. Driver of the van was injured, but luckily the semi managed to slow down a lot before the impact. The van driver is very lucky to be alive, I can't stress enough the importance of driving safely, especially as the weather changes, and rain, ice, and fog become common hazards.

We'll never forget
3,000 lost but 10,000 saved by the heroic actions of Firefighters, Police Officers, EMS Personnel, and Good Samaritans.
10,000 people were rescued from the towers before their collapse, by first responders, and 500,000 were evacuated by boat, many of whom were injured, and transported to waiting ambulances across the river in the largest sea evacuation in history.
2,977 people were killed that day and 5,000+ have died since of sickness and cancer caused by the dust and smoke at ground zero.
This is a stark and somber reminder of what happens when we turn our back on threats and terrorism.
It is also a source of inspiration to see the 1,000s of first responders from Fire, Police, and EMS agencies, both career and volunteer that responded to cover calls in the five boroughs of NYC, and responded to ground zero to assist with Recovery efforts. The first responders that gave their lives on that day will be remembered for their outstanding bravery and dedication to serving their community. For them it was outstanding circumstances, but the same goal as any other call: get in and get the job done. If it wasn't for them, the casualties count would have been much higher. Rest easy brothers.
"Always remember the heroes who did ordinary things, but at an extraordinary time so that others may live"
- FDNY Chief Pfeifer

Channel update and fire department update!

We are extremely close to 2,000 subscribers, 1.99K at the time of writing this! I will be doing a 2K subscriber special and a year end compilation before the years end. I am currently extremely busy with my EMT class and the FD so they might be delayed, but will get done.

Now onto the dept. (Which is not related to Sooner State Fire, they are completely separate entities)

Silver City VFD is ongoing some changes that will greatly increase our capabilities. We have joined a mutual aid task force that will respond to a range of large scale disasters but will mainly focus on wildland fires of great size or hazard. We are however prepared to respond to tornado and thunderstorm damage, flooding, earth quakes, or man-made disasters of large scale. This task force will respond throughout and outside of Oklahoma. Our first official deployment was to a large pipeline explosion and the brush fire it caused. The TF currently has members from 14 fire departments across 4 counties around Keystone Lake. Silver City VFD is preparing for deployment by setting up our new wildland deployment trailer, which will carry our JD Gator grass rig, and extra hand tools, power tools, and many supplies and spare parts. We are also expanding our medical license and capabilities now that the department posseses 3 practicing EMTs and is about to gain another when I finish my class this December. We are also attempting to lower our ISO rating, which will lower the insurance costs of the people living in our district. The process is slow going due to lack of funds, but is moving along nonetheless. We are working on multiple other projects as well, but these are the main focus at the time. If you are interested in joining or donating to the Silver City VFD contact us on Facebook, or messsge Chief Whitten .

I have many great response, scene and helmet camera videos coming soon, so stay tooned! - SSFP 621

Every fire I fight, even something that seems very minor, I have full PPE on. Even a small grass or forest fire can go from 0-100 real quick and being protected is essential. On my first fire I underestimated the radiant heat of a back-burn and received minor burns on my face and neck because of not wearing a Nomex/Kevlar hood. Another fire I took off a glove for just a few seconds, in what I believed to be a safe area, and received ember burns on that hand. Full and proper PPE is important people, don't get yourself airlifted to a burn center!
