Results are in! 2/3rds of people believe my music to be hardware accurate, and they are CORRECT!
I use software called Famitracker which can export in a way to make it playable on real hardware. My latest music would not fit on an NES however, but it would fit on a Famicom with the Konami VRC6 expansion chip. This chip adds a few more sound channels to enhance the music.
If you want an example of this, consider listened to the Japanese version of the Castlevania 3 soundtrack! Coincidentally, this is also the same set of sounds that Shovel Knight uses :-). Have a nice day!
