Finally got to meet Jonathon Hickory!! Jonathan battled childhood trauma of losing his Dad at an early age, and unfortunately battled severe alcoholism for a while.
But eventually he opened up his heart to God, walked by faith, and is a success story of hope, recovery, and post traumatic growth.
He authored the book, āBreaking Every Chainā, and it was made into a movie that has inspired so many people. Jonathan still works in law enforcement, as a police Sergeant now.
He also wrote to the foreword for my book ā101 Health Tips For Police Officersā. š
And Iām very grateful I was given the opportunity to be the opening speaker for the Virginia Department Of Criminal Justice Services Wellness Conference.

I had a great time speaking in Savannah, at the Georgia Professional Association of Community Supervision Conference.
The members were very enthusiastic and welcoming.

I know more details will be revealed as the investigation continues. But from what I can tell, officers saw a back door that appeared to be kicked in, and then heard a disturbance inside. They went in.
The deputies didnāt know these people. They went in.
There are so many law enforcement officers doing this type of thing every day and night. Responding to assist people they donāt even know.
And sometimes, it results in the ultimate sacrifice. And I get sick to my stomach just how many ambushes are taking place and killing law enforcement officers.
Please pray for the family and friends of the fallen deputy, the deceased victims in the house, and for the recovery of the wounded deputies. This is heartbreaking. And I also hope that LCSO receives massive support.

I woke up this morning with an aching heart for those who were directly impacted by the hands of someone who committed an evil act. Yes it was the victims to include Former President Trump, their family and friends, but the whole nation as well.
My heart aches for my country that I prayed to return home to on both deployments in the early 2000's because I saw firsthand how great we have it here, and never wanted to take it for granted ever again.
Yes, some would say America has fallen, and I would agree that we are in a bad place, but one thing is for sure...
1 Thessalonians 5:17 states, "Pray without ceasing." That is exactly what we must do. Pray relentlessly for America, and ask God to guide us in how to bring civility back along with restoring the founding vision and mission that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
What happened yesterday was another direct threat and act against that vision and mission.
Pray for America.

Police officers are taught to be aware of external risks and threats. For example, a suspect's actions, alternate exits in buildings, etc.
But police (and other first responders) are not taught enough, overall, to be aware of their own thoughts.
Our own thoughts can be very harmful to us. Self-defeating, hopeless, and negative thoughts affect us from head to toe because of our mind-body connection.
Per the National Science Foundation, 80% of our thoughts during the day are negative, and 95% of the daily thoughts are the same as the day before.
So an officer is exposed to such negativity, trauma, and danger. And then has a brain that's focused on negativity.
No wonder police and other first responders are more at risk of mental health illnesses.
You must be intentional about building your mindset, consistently strengthening your attitude and perspective on how you view and act upon things, because as you can tell, the brain will not do it by default.
The better your mindset, the better you can show up for others when 911 is called.

Hahaha! FB memories crack me up. I guess 4 years ago this month I said goodbye to this cup that was in the police car with me for 10 years. No joke, 10 years in the front seat cup holder, no matter which vehicle.
It even survived the K9 days. The cup did its time.š
And as my wife said, āThatās weird.ā And Iāll agree lol
