On this day 60 years ago, 13 March 1965, the Museum began its first electric tram services at its old site on the edge of the Royal National Park.

It was just four years and three weeks after the final closure of the Sydney tramways and represented a truly remarkable achievement. For the first time in Australia, a group of volunteers had successfully built and commenced operating an electric tramway museum. The official first journey was undertaken by Sydney L/P Class tram 154, itself the first preserved electric tram in Australia.
