Today is the anniversary of Solomon's birth in 1902. Among the performances I posted in my social media tribute today is this glorious Haydn Sonata that I believe was only ever issued on LP. For the full selection, check my Patreon page:

Today is the 16th anniversary of my Piano Files page on Facebook, which in turn led to this YouTube channel, my website, my Patreon page, and a host of writing, lecturing, and podcasting opportunities. I have shared on my website today some recollections (including the background of the name itself) and 16 of the uploads that I made over the past year (that's not all of them) with some descriptions and related links. Thank you for being part of this global community exploring these priceless treasures from the past!

WOW! The other part of Percy Grainger's BBC TV appearance from 1957 has been published - a glorious performance of Grieg's To The Spring was shared a month or so ago on the same channel. Just magnificent - his sound, buoyancy, rhythmic pulse and articulation ... all just amazing! watch video on watch page

Belatedly celebrating Lubka Kolessa's birthday - she was born May 19, 1902. What an incredible artist. I have a few more recordings of her on my YouTube channel and there are others available online.
My detailed feature about her life and artistry, and two additional recordings chosen today for my social media posts (including this Mozart) can be found here:

This legendary performance by Dinu Lipatti took place 75 years ago today. A finer transfer here than has generally been available of the problematic tape, and lots of details are linked in the descriptive text under the player window, as is a link to the three solo works that he played at the concert. watch video on watch page

Today is the 14th anniversary of my Piano Files page, which predates my starting my YouTube page. Over on Facebook and Patreon today, I have shared a number of links to mark this anniversary (I'll link them in the comments here too). Among them is this great conversation I had with Leila Getz of the Vancouver Recital Society@vanrecital talking about great pianists, recordings vs concerts, and respect for the score vs individuality. watch video on watch page

Today I am featuring Jascha Spivakovsky, a great pianist who released no solo studio recordings before he died in 1970. He was forgotten until his family began to release private tapes in 2015 that reveal stunning pianism. I got involved in the project and eventually 11 CDs were issued.
He was over 70 when he gave this unedited runthrough of Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata in his Melbourne living room - astounding pianism.
