Yesterday I finally hit 100k subscribers on my Youtube channel.
It took me 4 years and probably close to 400 videos to achieve this which is way longer and way more work than I ever expected.
But I'm learning to just focus on my journey rather than other people's.
After reaching this milestone ngl I feel relieved and a lot less "pressure" to make content. I really just wanted the silver play button and now that I'm finally going to receive it, my content output is probably going to decrease quite a bit.
Pursuing the content creator grind has been rewarding and learned a lot of great skills along the way (i.e. making engaging content to market products), but I've come to realize I'm a builder first and content creator second, so now I'm going to be investing even more of my time and effort into my various SaaS products instead of content.
I reached my content goal for now, so now any additional views/subscribers is just extra, so I feel like I can create more freely without any arbitrary goal in mind.
Time to accomplish my SaaS/business goals next 🚀

1) Build a lifestyle business that lets you personally net $1M/yr with a really small team
2) Build a VC backed >$1B company with hundreds of employees
My 2 cents: most people are pursuing #2 (which is much harder to do) for a lifestyle they can get with #1.
No matter which option you choose I think something really important is to figure out what "game" you want to play as a builder.
Once you figure out the game, the rules become clearer and there is a lot less distraction imo.

goal: cash flow $1 million / yr
at that point, I will feel like I have beat "the game" and everything after that is just extra
what's your number?

Best part about being a solo dev:
— I can build the product however I want to
Worst part about being a solo dev:
— When something breaks while I'm on vacation I have to wake up at 5am to fix it and can't ask anyone else to
wouldn't have it any other way

Good news: Finally built an app that has thousands of signed up users
Bad news: Shipped a bug that accidentally fired millions of events and ended up getting a huge posthog bill ☠️
luckily posthog sent an email alerting me of high usage and I was able to get a quick fix out

It took me 3.5 years of building 11 apps to cross $1k MRR
I'm embarrassed it took me so long to hit this milestone esp when it seems everyone hits it so fast
but I'm staying focused on my journey and not worrying about others
no more MRR screenshots — back to building 🧑💻

I love seeing VC backed companies with huge teams building the same exact thing that I'm building
fueling the fire to win with my team of 1 eng + 1 marketer
back to building 🧑💻
