Some incredible finds at a free book event in Baltimore this weekend.
The Book Thing is a non-profit in Baltimore that hosts a monthly free bookstore in which hundreds of people line up around the block to go in for a 55 minute period (limit of 110 people at a time). All books are marked “not for resale.” The selection was astounding, and seeing so many people excited about reading was a beautiful thing.
Yet another example of Baltimore being one of the most underrated cities in America. Happy to argue that point to my grave.

In my most theologically ambitious Substack post yet, I argue that beauty is a true measure of theology, and that this is a natural conclusion to the Christian view of theology and beauty.

A new essay in which I discuss why religion needs mystery, Reformation polemics against superstition, and what I think movements around re-enchantment get right and where they go wrong.

A prayer for times such as these, from the BCP.
I have no answers to war other than a visceral hatred for it. Most topics I like to philosophize about, but war is not one of them. I have no guidance. I have only prayer.

Fun update: The folks from Church of the Nativity (The Catholic Megachurch I made a video about) watched that video, and I'll be having Tom Corcoran, the layman who preached after the mass I attended and has partnered with the priest in pioneering the changes at this church, on my channel for an interview soon. I'll also be going on the Rebuilt Podcast to talk with him about my work.
Stay tuned!

Bringing simplicity out of theological and historical complexity through in-depth, diverse conversations.
Gospel Simplicity began as a YouTube channel in a Moody Bible Institute dorm. It was born out of the central conviction that the gospel is really good news, and I wanted to share that with as many people as possible. The channel has grown and changed over time, but that central conviction has never changed. Today, we make content around biblical and theological topics, often interacting with people from across the Christian tradition with the hope of seeking greater unity and introducing people to the beautiful simplicity and transformative power of the gospel, the good news about Jesus.
