MEET KIT - Short for KITUWA (Native American for Cherokee). This is my 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ that will be the base for my new Budget Build Competition with @OutdoorAuto, who chose a 100 Series Toyota Landcruiser. We're seeing who can build the most capable, comfortable, and fun off-road vehicle with a cap on our total spend. Raffi at @KSuspension is my build partner on this. We've been spending the last few months scavenging, bargaining, and making a plan for how to build this thing. This series will air on both my channel and Outdoor Auto as a 3 part series. Part 1: Overview of the competition and initial testing of stock vehicles (November 17). Part 2: The builds (November 24). Part 3: The Competition Rock Crawling, Rocklanding, and Overlanding (December 1). Watch on both channels to how incredibly different our approaches are to this competition.

This is the moment when we sat down at the top of Observation Point on the Rubicon Trail...cracked a cold one...and just soaked it all in. We'd spend months prepping, days driving, and years dreaming of this moment. It was a little overwhelming, but I can tell you, that was one of the best beers I've ever had.

My latest and last Rubicon video is now live on the Channel. I'm super proud of this series, both because it was crazy wild ride for 3 Overlanders, but also because I really tried to capture the whole experience of the Rubicon Trail..not just the macho stuff (which is still cool)..but the vulnerable moments, the moments of frustration, and the emotional moments that only happen when you cross of a bucket list item in your life.

This week I'm releasing my Moab Movie. It covers a week I spent in Moab, hitting amazing trails (both overlanding and crawling), seeing the town, meeting friends (@TheStoryTillNow and @TrailRecon ), seeing Jeep concept cars, going to the @metalcloak CTI trailer, and just generally experiencing what Moab is. If you are looking for a fun way to spend an hour or so watching V2R this weekend, I hope you give this one a look!

Who's ready to see more traditional Overlanding on the Channel??? My Rubicon Series will wrap up next week and next on the docket is a really fun adventure Chris and I went on mapping some water crossings on the Owyhee River. The Owyhees are our backyard, and I often see other channels publishing videos of trips they took out there...and to be honest, while I love them, I get a little competitive - because I grew up out there. So when Chris I went out to map these trails, I put in some extra effort to film it in a way that you can really feel like you're there with us. Can't wait to share this. Stay tuned to the channel!!!

I'm an Overlander, not a Rock Crawler, but the Rubicon Trail has been a bucket list trip for me and my friends. So when we did the trail this summer, we felt out of our league at times. This is Sawtooth, a named obstacle on the Rubicon Trail. We took the time to walk all of Big Sluice, which is a long stretch of obstacles heading into Rubicon Springs. Walking the trail ahead of time was a really good idea, because when we hit the trail the next morning, we were more or less immediately swamped with problems. The latest Rubicon Video is on live on the channel now.

I've been getting questions about doing the Rubicon Trail with RTTs. Generally more weight on top is not great for Rock Crawling. However, we were all sporting Ultra Light tents. Lance and I both had Inspired Overland tents that weigh in around 80lbs, and Chris was using the FSR Aspen Lite, that's right around 100lbs. It really helped us keep the comfort of an RTT without severely affecting our ability to crawl the trail.

What's the highest pitch angle you've experienced so far? For me, I think it was this 32 degree pitch on the Rubicon Trail. Next week's episode covers this and a whole lot more. Tune in on Sunday at noon!

This weekend is my second annual Patreon Campout. I'm really looking forward to spending the weekend on an adventure with this group. I always get a little nervous when meeting "strangers" for the first time. But what I found out last year is that we all inherently have a lot in common. The other thing is that my Patreon Community aren't really strangers either. We're constantly sharing stories and personal experiences on a variety of topics. We're having a POTLUCK DINNER on Saturday night, and I can't wait to see what folks bring.

Welcome to Venture2Roam! We venture to explore the American West, overlanding with our family and friends.
This channel follows our overland adventures, our approach to primitive camping, Jeep Wrangler upgrades (and fixes), reviews of the gear we use, and walk arounds of the amazing rigs and equipment we meet along the way.
You will see us explore remote parts of the America West, give our honest opinion on equipment and gear, share any hard learned lessons and tips we've picked up along the way, and highlight the overlanding community we love so much.
Subscribe to get feel good stories about how we escape the rat race of everyday life and Venture to Roam in the wilder parts of our world.
