Iām a Zen priest based in Oxfordshire (UK), rooted in the Linji-ChĆ”n tradition of Buddhism.
My Dharma name is WĆ¹ XÄ«n (Awakening Heart).
When I first heard of emptiness, I feared falling headlong into the darkness of amorality and nihilism.
But glimpsing it for a moment one sees that though the fundamental characteristic of all āthingsā is beyond grasp, it is discernible everywhere and includes everything without limit. All is empty, yes, but on that account, the entire universe is forever singing the Good Law, if only weād open our ears to it. With faith gradually achieved from the practice of letting go, we find the heartās rest that is always available to us. The 'Void' is actually the very wellspring of deep compassion, which ceaselessly flows forth from its tranquil heart of no-thingness. Taking the leap, we lose nothing essential; instead we gain an 'all' that is empty of self, yet full of love.
