The College of Medicine was established in 1927, as a result of the great efforts made by a group of pioneering doctors, both Iraqis and foreigners, and the Baghdad Medical Association, recognizing the need to raise the health level of Iraqi society.
In 1932, the first batch of doctors graduated from this college, and they numbered only twelve doctors. Now, the average graduates of this college are approximately two hundred and fifty doctors annually. Since its inception, the college has been striving to raise the scientific level of its medical graduates, despite the difficulties it has gone through. It has adopted the academic curricula of the University of Edinburgh.
In 1949, the British Royal College of Physicians recognized this college, which strengthened its active role locally and globally. The college graduated a large number of well-known doctors at the Iraqi and international levels.
