It started on a lonesome highway in North Dakota.
I came across these abandoned places as I went out making a video for a personal project (The Enchanted Highway), and these mysterious places on the Dakota plains seemed to call out, begging me to tell their story. What happened? Who had lived here? The Midwest was home to over a thousand different abandoned towns, camps, farms, and ranches. Whether it was due to economic hardship and migration during the Great Depression, “Boom or Bust” mining situations, railroad shifting or the survival from mother nature with her winds of fury through Tornado Alley, or the great floods of the mighty midwest rivers! Either way - it was clear to me - there was a story to tell.
So, I'm setting out to cover these abandoned places all over the Midwest (with roughly thousands of these Ghost Towns scattered through America's Heartland), not including some of the abandoned individual places.
Come along and join me on the journey.
