The Bay Foundation (TBF) is a 501(c)3 environmental non-profit founded to restore & enhance the Santa Monica Bay & local coastal waters. Our staff is passionate about understanding & protecting the Bay & its watershed, & all the benefits that a healthy ecosystem can provide.
Nearly 2 million people live in the Santa Monica Bay Watershed. 5,000+ species of animals, fish, birds & plants make their home in the Bay & its Watershed. TBF works with many stakeholders to create & put into action innovative projects that clean our waterways, create green spaces in urban areas, and restore natural habitats both on land & underwater, such as wetlands & kelp forests.
TBF serves as the Host Entity for the Santa Monica Bay National Estuary Program (SMBNEP). SMBNEP is 1 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 28 National Estuary Programs dedicated to protecting & restoring water quality & the ecological integrity of estuaries of national significance.
