I never thought I would see this in Virginia! It looked like faint rain bands moving in with a slight glow of magenta and teal. An incredible sight! Has anyone else been out to see it?

I was able to capture this image of Comet ZTF on January 27th and was pleased with the green color and faint tail that showed up in about an hours worth of data. YouTube compression on this image is a bit of a mess. Feel free to check out my Instagram for a higher quality version! Clear Skies Everyone!

Equipment: Canon SL2, Samyang 135mm Lens, Ioptron Sky Guider Pro, DeepSkyStacker, PixInsight, GIMP

"The Deep-Sky Imaging Primer" was the book that got me into astrophotography years ago and I'm excited to read through the newest edition to improve my skills even more! I appreciate Charles Bracken for sending me this copy of the third edition and look forward to using it in future astrophotography videos. Regardless of your experience level it's a great one to pick up over at amazon.com.

Earth is at opposition with Mars giving us some of the best views of this planet over the next few weeks! Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity because it won't happen for another 26 months. This image was taken with an 8 inch dobsonian telescope and DSLR camera. Check out my latest video "Mars Gets Close to Earth: The Joy of Astrophotography" to see how I took it!

Jupiter remains my favorite planet to observe and image through the telescope! Go outside and enjoy it over the next several weeks and please share your observations and images with me on YouTube and Instagram! Take care and clear skies everyone!

Few things compare to seeing Saturn through a telescope for the first time! I took this picture a few days ago with my telescope and DSLR camera. Who else has been out to see Saturn lately?

I just came in from viewing the planets all lined up this morning. I was able to spot four of the seven. Has anyone else been out this month to view them?

Sadly, I had to cancel my live stream of the Total Lunar Eclipse due to clouds! As a consolation prize, here is a picture I just finished working on of the Leo Triplet! The Leo Triplet of galaxies is a favorite of mine in the spring sky and has been on my list to image for quite a while. It's a tough target for my 135mm lens but I'm pleased with how it turned out in this final image.

The Leo Triplet: 4/3/2022
Canon SL2, Samyang 135mm Lens, F2.0, ISO 800, SkyGuider Pro Tracking Mount
170 Separate 45 Second Light Frames stacked to 2 Hours and 7 minutes of data
100 Dark Frames
100 Flat Frames
100 Bias Frames

I was able to image the Orion, Horsehead and Flame Nebulas from a dark site location this past weekend! The dust lanes and faint nebulosity surrounding this region of space normally don't show up when I image from my light polluted sky. What have you been out to image or view lately?

The Constellation Orion: 3/27/22
Canon, SL2, Samyang 135mm Lens, F/2.8, ISO 400, SkyGuider Pro Track Mount
64 Separate 45 Second Light Frames stacked to 48 minutes worth of data
76 Dark Frames
71 Flat Frames
86 Bias Frames

This picture I recently took of the Heart and Soul Nebulas is dedicated to my wife, daughter and our little one on the way. I love you three and am blessed by our growing family!
