✨HOW TO MEDITATE ON THE WORD OF GOD✨

The Bible on many occasions encourages us to meditate on the word (The book of the law), but
What is meditation ?
How does one meditate?
How long should one meditate?
Must I be in a quiet place doing nothing else that I can meditate?

Let's talk about this today.
What should I meditate on?
Here is something to guide you through this, I hope it makes it clearer and easier.

1. Meditate on God's works.

These are the works of God that we see in our daily lives.
*David* did this in Psalm 104. He thought of how God created the earth, the grass, the mountains, the animals (this reminded him of how powerful, creative and big our God is)
*Jesus* in Matthew 6:25-34 tells us His meditation. How God clothes the grass of the field. So why should I worry about anything?

2. Meditate on God's commandments.

There are so many across scripture. For example, when we are told not to have any other God before the Lord. What does it mean.
Think about how God treated those that did. Reflect how you can obey this commandment today.

3. Meditate on Jesus' words

Jesus gave us many parables, gave us the new law etc.
Think of these words as words directly spoken by God Himself in person.
Eg. Reflect on what he says about fasting. Reflect on the parables, when He says we will do more work than Him, do you believe it?

4. Meditate on God Himself

Who He is. Think of His names, what you know about Him as you ask The Holy spirit to teach you more about God. How Jesus is the only way to The Father.
Think about His fatherhood, Him as a judge, as a Holy God etc.

5. Meditate on Jesus' works

Especially the work of the cross. What is the significance of the cross in my life. Thank Him for it.
Reflect also on the miracles of Jesus. How powerful Jesus is and how this power is available to us through the Holy Spirit.

6. Meditate on God's promises

There are thousands of promises in the Bible and to receive them, there is a condition to it. Think about these.

7. Meditate in thanksgiving.

Remember His faithfulness in your life. Be thankful. In this place, sing Psalms to Him, recite verses on thanksgiving even as you seek the word for more verses and Psalms. Count your blessings!

8. Meditate on what you'd like to do for God.

David expressed his desire to build the temple of the Lord. Nehemiah meditated on rebuilding the temple etc.
Ask the Holy spirit to guide you on what you have potential to do. Some great ideas are birthed here!

9. Meditate on a bible story.

Pick a story in the Bible. There are so many.
Eg story of Job, Ananias and Sapphira, Dorcas/ Tabitha, Elizabeth/ Zechariah, King Ahaz etc.
What did they do right/ wrong? What can I copy? What do I leave?

10. Meditate on a scriptural song

Identify a song based off scripture, identify the scripture, read it, sing it.
Sing songs to encourage your spirit. Sing songs to your soul, Sing songs to The Lord.

11. Meditate on the new covenant as recorded in the new testament.

These are the stories in Acts, the epistles and they explain how we should live as a new testament believer.

12. Meditate on meditation itself.

How it is building you up,How meditating on God's word enriches my spirit, how having the word in my heart keeps me in the right way and keeps me from sin.
This will encourage you to continue in it.

Now, make sure you exercise something from what you have meditated. This is how we are renewed first in our mind. This is how we become doers of the word.
Eg if you're meditating on giving/generosity, give to someone, send something to your church, etc.

Do, act upon and express the Word in you.

Remember, He sees our hearts and knows what we are thinking about. May The meditations of our hearts be pleasing to Him.
Also, our mediations are counted as prayers❤️

Shalom!

What you focus on magnifies!

What you set your mind to becomes your focus. Everything else around it falls into the background.

A problem looks bigger than it actually is when you obsess over it.
Sometimes step out of your 'issue' and look at it from a different lens. Change your field of view.

Let that lens be the word of God. ❤️
Step out of situations and let the word of God be your lens. You will always be reminded that the issue you are anxious about, was already dealt with, on The Cross.

That mountain before you will melt like wax.

‭‭Psalm 97:5 (NIV)
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.

So, relax! Get out of your racing mind, rest in God.
