The Czech police have been using Octavias III equipped with a special frontal frame for some time now, which is used to force the pursued vehicle to a halt in a so-called PIT manoeuvre.

The regulations state that it should only be dissected in certain (potentially dangerous) circumstances, at speeds between 30 km/h and 60 km/h, and only on selected types of vehicles. After all, if police patrols were trying to destabilize a Hummer or other road tank, the task would probably not go as they would like.

It was the American state police who inspired Czech law enforcement officers with their requirement that new cars should have a frame with which they could, in extreme cases, run into aggressive drivers who refuse to stop and try to drive away.

Within Europe, Czech cars with frames for the PIT manoeuvre are very rare, if not completely unique. Of course, you can come across police cars in other European countries that have some iron in the front, but its function is usually only protective.
