Back in 2011 I was introduced to Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex.
It changed my perception of music.
The incredible energy, the amazing beats and the beautiful melodies gave me the idea of reimagining electronic music with an orchestra.
Although It wouldn’t be the first time an orchestra had played non-classical music (Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s Suite for Ma Dukes is a masterpiece!), hearing Skrillex’s music inspired me. My aim was to form an orchestra to bridge the gap between musical genres - through the orchestral recreation of genres like dubstep and drum & bass.
The first project we attempted was my Skrillex Suite which we recorded back in 2012. It was the start of our journey as an orchestra and I’m so grateful to Skrillex and the impact his music had on me then - and continues to have on me to this day.
He’s recently released 2 new albums and one of them features a track called “Butterflies”. Hearing it gave me the same incredible and inspiring feelings I had hearing his music for the first time, so I wanted to show my gratitude by writing an orchestral version - which we recorded last year.
Thank you @Skrillex for sharing your music with the world and inspiring so many. I hope one day I can fulfil my dream and collaborate with you.

A break away orchestra fit for 21st Century audiences.
In 2011 Steve Pycroft and David Tagg-Oram wanted to bring orchestras to new audiences; people who had never listened to orchestras before, playing music that had never been played in an orchestral way before.
In 2012 the orchestra recorded their first suite of music arranged by Steve. It featured the music of Skrillex, and has now had over 800,000 views!
Our mission is to bridge the gap between Classical music and other genres such as drum & bass, EDM and trance.
