Ciao a tutti ragazzi! In molti mi avete chiesto di far ripartire Pionieri con una nuova stagione.
Ci lavoro da diversi mesi, e sono riuscito ad ottenere la disponibilità di alcuni ospiti favolosi!
Purtroppo però, il progetto ha bisogno di fondi per ripartire.
Mi serve un nuovo computer, perché quello vecchio non riesce a sostenere le chiamate video con condivisione di immagini e alta qualità audio.
Vorrei anche spedire agli ospiti un microfono di media qualità, per garantire un audio consistente sia da parte mia che loro.
Infine, una stagione di Pionieri è un onere molto grande: diverse ore di preparazione, 4 ore di registrazione e almeno 2 ore di montaggio e pubblicazione; sganciarmi dall'azienda agricola così tanto ha un inevitabile costo.
Ecco il perché di questo crowd-funding. Se arriviamo a 4000 euro, si parte!

🌱I bend down over the pathway, mulched with woodchip. I am engaging in what is probably the humblest, most boring and back-breaking task in market gardening. Hand weeding.
🌿 Hand weeding has become a symbol, for me, of what it means to be part of a great team.
👩🌾 Managing people is definitely a task I don’t shine at, although I try my best to motivate the folks who share the present with me. However, for mysterious reasons, I have been lucky enough to attract and meet some amazing individuals along the way. This year, in particular, our team has blown me away. Despite the many sources of friction, my total inexperience as a leader, and the cumbersome nature of many of the jobs we had to do, the days in the garden have been productive and fulfilling. The atmosphere and the energy of the group has been a constant motivating factor for me, and a driving force in the creation of this little young farm. It is very hard to express this in words for me. That’s why I like to use hand weeding as an example.
🌤 Imagine waking up at 5 AM, when the sun is still young, dressing up and starting the day by crouching down and digging up weeds from a hard clay soil, for a couple of hours, until breakfast. That sounds grim, doesn’t it?
But now imagine doing this with a handful of people you like spending time with. Imagine that while you are at it, you have the most stimulating conversations about life and death, friendship and love, nature and society, religion and technology. Imagine an enriching, provocative, profound dialogue, where everybody is free to express themselves sincerely. Imagine falling in love with these people, their way of thinking and of being - so much so that hand weeding becomes something you actually look for in the coming days. Because it’s a chance to connect, to bond and to learn, to share and to question, to challenge and to grow.
🥬 During this first year at OrtoForesta, we have been doing a lot of hand weeding. To remove couch grass, bind weed, docks and other perennial weeds.
In time, in deep-mulch no-dig systems such as ours, weeding becomes less and less of a burden, and a bit of it every now and then is enough to keep the garden clean.
As the soil becomes more structured and spongy, the rhizomes of these pioneer plants become less and less tenacious. Thus, every time we do another pass on the same bed or pathway, the weeds give in more easily, and it becomes more pleasant to pull them out.
👩🏼🤝🧑🏻 It is at times like this, when I am pleased to see how easy it has become to weed a bed or a path - after only a few months - that my mind goes to those early summer mornings. When even the worst of all garden jobs was a joy. When I was taught one of the most beautiful lessons: the synergy of like-minded, motivated, caring people makes any jobs a discovery. This is how revolutions take place. This is real, hear-felt farming. This is a good life.

Hi lovely folks, a personal message from me, Dario, here. I do apologise if I take a minute to share something of a personal nature. I do so to avoid confusion in those who follow my work; in the name of transparency - which is a guiding star for me; and to honour something beautiful that both me and this community have benefited from over the years.
Flavia’s path and mine have definitively parted. I am not going to dwell on the personal value and implications of this, because it is very private. But I want to say how hugely grateful I am for the things we have achieved together, for the huge amount of work we have done and the reciprocal support we have given each other over the years. Living Soil Garden as a farm, as well as our educational and my consultancy work, wouldn’t have been easy if possible at all without Flavia, who did a lot of the skilled and hard work that is required from a vegetable farmer. I am hugely indebted to her not only for that, but for the incredible love she has given me and our common projects. I hope this community appreciates this and respects it as much as I do.
I know that you too, who are reading this, have friends, partners, collaborators who have shared part of the way with you but at some point have taken their own path. We are who we are, and we have achieved what we have also thanks to those important individuals, so I invite you to salute them and thank them from the bottom of our hearts.
Life goes on, fast and intense, with renewed joys and challenges, surprises and snags, and hopefully more love and motivation than ever. As you will see, some things will change in the organisation of OrtoForesta. I will stay, new amazing people will hopefully join me, things will evolve but the regeneration will continue faster than ever. Stay tuned.

Domenica 29 Ottobre si terrà il primo corso intensivo di Orticoltura Rigenerativa ad OrtoForesta (a Firenze).
Il corso dura una giornata intera (con pranzo condiviso) e si propone di essere un'introduzione teorico-pratica alla realizzazione e gestione di un orto rigenerativo, sia su scala domestica che commerciale. Nelle immagini sotto il programma dettagliato.

👨👩👧👦 In molti ci avete chiesto di organizzare un corso qui in azienda da noi (a Firenze). Ci abbiamo lavorato molto, per trovare un formato che permettesse di coprire un programma ampio senza risultare troppo denso di informazioni, con delle sessioni sia teoriche che pratiche in cui ciascuno possa fare esperienza diretta delle tecniche e avere spazio per fare tutte le domande possibili.
👩🌾 Così nasce questo corso teorico-pratico di Orticoltura Rigenerativa, qui a OrtoForesta. Il pacchetto completo prevede 9 (e più!) sessioni, quasi tutte con degli elementi pratici, e che toccano tutti gli aspetti della creazione e della gestione di un orto sia domestico che professionale. Se ci sarà interesse, aggiungeremo delle sessioni più avanzate sulla nutrizione della pianta, l’analisi microbiologica del suolo, la programmazione colturale, ed altri temi.
📚 Ogni sessione darà accesso alle relative dispense, tabelle, schemi sul tema trattato.

In questo episodio ho fatto una bellissima chiacchierata con Lorenzo Costa dell'Azienda Agricola La Scoscesa. Abbiamo parlato di agricoltura come atto politico, di come valorizzare alcune essenze spontanee per la vendita, di keyline design e swales, di terreni pietrosi, KNF e molto altro. Io mi sono divertito un sacco, spero anche voi.
