My name is Christian, and I immigrated to Canada from Switzerland as a child.
I started to yodel because I had forgotten all my childhood songs. I searched for lullabies in many languages and started singing opera and yodelling to pass on my Swiss heritage and languages to my children. It helped fill my “Heimweh.”
I bought an album from Boss Buebe and later discovered Franzl Lang, Takeo Ischi and Oesch’s Die Dritten.
I travelled long distances by car for work without a good radio, so I practiced A LOT!
As Master of ceremonies at conferences, yodelling was also a great way to get people’s attention.
I’m "The Lonesome Yodeler" because the nearest yodel club is 5 hours away and I don't have a crew to film me from below in the valleys. I look for tunnels and places with echoes to yodel in. It helps me destress, relieves tension and relaxes me.
Try it too! Let loose, find your epiglottal break and remember, “Breathe deep, sing loud and be happy”
